I always knew right from wrong. I guess, that’s why I became an FBI agent - to make sure there’s more good than bad in the world. My sister, Tiana, a political reporter, has always had a different approach to life.
My next case, the investigation of a crooked politician running for mayor, leads me to her town. I find out that the werewolf shifters run this town and they need this guy to win the election. He’s promising them protection from their rivals in the neighboring city.
A chance encounter with a werewolf shifter awakens a flame in me. But, he wants more. He wants a mate. Only, I’m not sure I can turn a blind eye to many of the things happening here…
The Night Wolf a standalone Gay Paranormal MPREG Romance with a HEA and NO cheating!
I like this author's stories and characters and I liked the characters in this book. I felt that it was a bit too simple and could have been so great. The basic story was there. It seemed like a great first draft. But there were very little shifter elements used. Nothing about fated mates. At the end, Arric does say that Reese is his mate but nothing about what that means. Then, in the very last chapter, he mentions that both male and female shifters can get pregnant.
The main story is great. Reese works for the FBI and is sent to try to get some definitive evidence against a Big Bad. He meets a shifter who catches his attention. Reese's sister is prejudiced against shifters and that becomes a problem between them. There is a weird thing that happens at the culmination of the investigation with her that didn't make sense (because why would she wait when he almost died and everyone would have heard the bikers) but she ends up being okay.
Arric is a good guy but he isn't utilized enough. They hardly spend any time together. The story is a lot of Reese on his own. I get the fated mates trope and I love that, but they didn't claim that here. And after they spend the night together, Arric didn't call Reese back, causing Reese to question his intent. Then, there is the issue of Reese working for the FBI. When the that revelation is made, Arric has zero reaction. No big deal.
My other issue is that a specific phrase is repeated over and over. I can't post it because then my review won't be approved, but it's during sexy times. Now, listen. I love steamy sexy times. The dirtier the better. Heat level 10? I'm there for it. This phrase is used once during the first time and twice during the second and I don't get why. It's not hot and it's like they're repeating each other. You'll get it when you read it. It's poke something teenage guys think sound cool but absolutely isn't. What IS hot is when Arric goes all wolfie to protect Reese. DON'T TOUCH MY MAN!
Arric loves all of Reese's quirks. Reese is instantly attracted to Arric. He trusts him, despite what his sister says. I'm assuming because they are fated, even though that isn't plainly stated.
I would love it if this was expanded to include more of Arric. I feel like I'm missing him. I like Reese. He's different. He deserves to find someone who loves him for him and Arric is that guy. I just want to know Arric more
This is an intriguing Mpreg shifter romance that certainly caught my attention & kept it. The characters are interesting with good chemistry between them. The plot is quite suspense with some unexpected situations. There is: a male FBI agent (Reese West) is sent by his boss (Mr. Atkinson) to a small town (Haywood) to investigate an apparently dishonest politician (Connor McDaniel) then Reese comes into contact with a werewolf (Arric) who has his eyes firmly set on him, Reese’s sister (a political reporter, Tiana), wolf shifters, humans, adventure, some action, drama, intrigue, suspense, secrets, attractions, suspicions, warnings, danger, threats, confrontation, violence, unexpected help, apologies, compromises, love, some steam & a delightful, satisfying conclusion.
Good short story. Reese is an FBI agent sent into the town that his twin sister lives in. Arric is a wolf shifter. Reese meets Arric at a bar, they hit it off. They have lots of chemistry. Reese’s sister has told him that shifters are supposed to be bad. They both were keeping secrets. The story was well written, it moved fairly quickly. I was gifted an ARC from the author for an honest review. This was solely based on my honest thoughts and views.
This is my second Van Cole book and I loved it. The plot is interesting and complex with many twists and turns, and some aspects that differed from the shifters' stories I've usually read. Reese and Arric are wonderful characters and I enjoyed how they confronted obstacles, secrets and misunderstandings to be together. A great reading!
I loved this story right from the start. I could not put the book down once I started. I had no getting to know the characters moment it just came natural from the start. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What a fantastic, amazing, suspenseful, grab-you-by-the-feels, fast paced, action packed, explosive, fresh, more twists and turns than a roller coaster ride, intense, and totally awesome story. It had me hooked from beginning to end, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
this was a good story.. it was a bit slow for me.. but it was all together a fun read. some parts of this didnt make complete sense to me.. i felt like i was missing the mate part of it.. like.. it was sad they are mates but not much else was done.. but overall i did enjoy it. it wasnt a bad read.
A short and sweet, hot and steamy, proper love story with a satisfying ending. Plenty of character detail makes the two main protagonists more than two dimensional, and it’s easy to imagine the town, the people and the normality of werewolves. You want things to work out well, and although at first unlikely, you get what you want.
