Thought I'd give it a go with a book from a lesser-known, female entrepreneur. Openshaw founded the now-defunct Women's Financial Network. Her book's a bit dated, but a good refresher for the basics.

6 Common Mistakes to Avoid When Caring for Your Life-Net
—————————————————----------------
1. "Don’t assume someone isn’t good enough. You never know where that person might end up."
2. "Don’t assume you won’t ever talk to a person again. It’s a small-enough world."
3. "Don’t judge a book by its cover. Some of the wealthiest, most powerful people in the world are unassuming. Treat everyone as worthy."
4. "Don’t think you don’t have time to properly time to thank someone."
5. "Don’t think you don’t need to repay someone. Those in the zone consider this a key part of business."
6. "Don’t discount someone because they can’t offer exactly what you’re looking for."

"Structure relationships that will take your projects to the next level. What do they want? Make certain you can deliver, otherwise it will certainly hurt your credibility and the relationship. Compensating partners on an ongoing basis can be the most beneficial."

"Do it now. When you are around serious entrepreneurs, you will notice a 'get it done' mentality … a sense of urgency to everything they do. Adopt that attitude and you’re half-way to the millionaire zone."

"Those whom you nourish will want you to succeed. You will be in the habit of helping others, and seeking help from them. This is key to successfully reaching the millionaire zone."

"Give without expecting anything back."

"Make care a daily habit."

"Keep track of your life net… who they are, how to reach them, what their needs are so that you can always give help and ask for help right when you need it."

"Turn rejection into opportunity. When turned down for a loan, always ask for a referral to another bank."

“Sales people face more rejection than anyone else… Most sales managers train their salespeople to learn how to overcome objections. They expect to make 100 calls because it takes that many to get 35 meetings… the 35 meetings will result in only 3 actual sales.”

“A ‘no’ is just a ‘yes’ deferred.”

“Censoring yourself is a form of self-rejection."

“Understand your own tolerance for risk.”

“Stocks are riskier because they represent an investment in the equity of a company; bonds are an investment in the debt of a company. Equity holders are repaid after debt holders if the company ever goes bankrupt. That’s why they get higher returns on average over time. "

My takeaway on this might be weird, but the one clear message I heard throughout was make friends with everyone and learn to network them into a web of information to help everyone. ❤️ I love this because I feel like being a resource of info is the best anyways.

This book reminds me of a great South Park episode in which Tweek is plagued by too much coffee and the Underpants Gnomes. Allow me to explain the gnomes formula for why they collect underpants:

Step one: Collect Underpants
Step two: -
Step three: PROFIT!

Now, let me apply that logic to this book while filling in some gaps:

Step one: Read Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich"
Step two: Make my own slang up (LifeNet), use capital letters to designate that it's a word concept I created, fill pages with case studies of Famous People, re-purpose the concept of reaching out to your personal networks when you need help, insert minor investment ideas in.
Step three: PROFIT!

How many times can a new "Let's Help YOU Get Rich 'Cause I'm Rich" author take Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich" concept of Master Minds, put their own unique wording to say the same thing, and profit? Apparently, quite a lot. Case in point.

I'm all for the hustle. But, call a spade a spade. Calling a tomato a rose doesn't make it any less of a tomato.

The cover is nice. The concept is decent enough. The whole "You don't have to do it alone, get out of your comfort zone, everybody poops and you can get rich too" line of writing is perfectly fine. But for me, this wasn't my first book to read on the subject. Openshaw lost me within the first pages of re purposed concepts combined with excessive capitalization.

Want to read good books on investments? Try "The Investment Answer" by Daniel C. Goldie. Want to also read better books on how to become financially sound? Suze Orman's got a ton.

If this is your first book on the concept of money and you'd consider yourself financially retarded.... then, by all means do a flip through.

If not, then don't.

The majority of the book is about networking. The author shares some really inspirational stories of millionaires that started out with next to nothing but used their resources (network) to grow their businesses. I have to admit, the first half of the book did tend to seem somewhat repetitive in regards to using your network, however, the way she blends in the personal stories of others kept the reading interesting. I felt the more interesting content happened towards the end of the book when she began giving action steps for financing your start-up and ways to get out of debt.
