Burnout #2

Fuel & Fire

Rate this book
Are you wondering how that whole “Remi keeping her distance from sexy men who live and breathe vehicles” thing is going?

In short… terrible.

My heart got involved. It wasn’t supposed to run a race of its own, especially one where the competition is fixed — a guaranteed loss no matter how fast or well I drive.

Choosing a side was never in the job description.

Imagine a game of car-crew tug-of-war: A rope is tethered between two vehicles. Racers have their hands wrapped around the steering wheel and sticky tires grip the asphalt. Engines are revving to pull at the signal — competitors ready to claim a win.

That flag entangled and dangling in the middle dividing the two sides? That’s me. The rope represents my secrets. My integrity. My pride. My fight…

My feelings.

With the job sabotaged, deciding where my loyalties lie has now become a requirement, and there’s no room for negotiations on this high-speed, two-lane freeway.

Family… or feelings?

One has to lose.

Buckle up for Fast & Furious meets Driven in the continuation of this high-octane, edge-of-your-seat Reverse Harem Romance!

Adell Ryan is a hubby/wife pseudonym. Adell writes unconventional love stories about fierce women and their numerous male suitors. Because let's be honest, we need more than one to satisfy our multi-dimensional needs. Right? Ryan simply puts up with Adell's crazy fantasies and toots her horn regularly. Occasionally he'll add in a shoulder pat, and a deep, sexy "Damn that's good stuff."

That southern boy (bless him) stole this northern girl's heart and they live together in the deep south, raising their three boys. When Adell isn't writing she's homeschooling — primarily working on dictation, making sure they say 'creek' instead of 'crick' and 'fire' instead of 'fer.' She also dabbles in photography and graphic design. Oh yeah, and reading. Every. Night. Much to Ryan's dismay. Sometimes she puts the steamy stuff down and gives him a quick kiss on the forehead though.

So I read the second and third book of this series in two days (well let's be honest - nights), so I'm not too sure what happend in which book lol.

🏁 The story 🏁
Remi is still adapting to her new life, and she'll have to choose between the boys she's starting to fall for, and her family.

Again, I loved this story. I just enjoy the characters so damn much, and it doesn't happen often that I love all of the guys in the harem - and the main girl as well! I must say that I didn't enjoy the story as much, because I kept mentally preparing myself for the heartbreak that was sure to come. I just didn't want my heart to be broken. I'm now used to Susanne Valenti and Caroline Peckham's kind of heartbreaks, so I think I'm more prepared now or something. The abusive relationship Remi has with Porter was portrayed so well, and it confuses me how different she was with him. I don't have a lot of experience reading about abusive relationships, so I just felt like her character changed a lot with him, she wasn't the badass she was with the boys. I guess this was a 'normal' thing though.

I liked the fact that there were some Jude POV chapters as well, I really screamed for him to just figure it all out. although I have no clue what he'll do now.

🏁 The characters 🏁
🏍️Remi🏍️
I must say she did annoy me a little bit in this book, but just a little bit. The way she just does not communicate was bothering me; I felt like so many things could've been avoided if she would've just talked and not be so stupid. Like the event with her phone for example, I wish she'd just set the boys down and said 'so hey, this was what I was supposed to do, but I like you so I don't want to screw you guys over' and told Jude the truth too. Honestly, it wasn't that big a deal. She's still such a cool character to me, and I really want to drive a motorcycle now.

🚦Revelry🚦
Crow, Trenton and Hayes
First of all, I can't believe there isn't a crow smiley. Anyway. I love Crow so damn much. Hot damn, this guy is exactly my type, like to a fault. Seriously, right down to his freaking lip ring - my guilty pleasure in life. I love his chemistry with Remi so much, and the banter they have is so great to me as well. I'm not proud to admit that the cawfee and cawing jokes made me laugh really damn hard. I loved Trenton still, he's so funny. Hayes is such a mystery to me? I don't know, the image I have of him just doesn't fit with the one Remi is painting. Anyway, like I said, I adore all of the guys.

🏁 Overall conclusion 🏁
I loved this book, and I can't freaking wait to pick up the next book. I love these boys so damn much, and I even love Remi - and I'm still surprised that I like all the main characters this much. I need racing people in my life now.

Sadly I still didn’t get all the vibes I was hoping for in this book. It does pick up where book one ends but the tension somehow felt lessened when things picked back up. There were a few racing scenes but not as much as I’d expected. We do get answers into who Remy and her brother are and why they want street connections in their new city which pieced a few more things together. Still no answers on Porters full betrayals but it’s clear he’s been lying about a lot more than we know of. On the note of Porter I’m so digested by him as a whole and I hated that the physical and mental abuse continued in this book without the heroine seeking ACTUAL help. The whole situation just has so many icky vibes attached that I’m more enraged the heroine thinks harboring her secrets are more important than telling her brother the truth and revealing his best friends backstabbing and betrayal. They do have him hogtied in the end and ready for a bloody interrogation which only has my vindictive side ready to go. The series just hasn’t been all that exciting which I’m kind of bummed about. I’m not sure if I’d keep reading if there was more than just the next and final book. At this rate I’d just like to see how everything concludes and the group can figure out their HEA. Crow is still pretty hesitant and not really into group time so I’m eager to see this grumpy guy change his tune.

This was a pretty good sequel! Probably closer to 3.5 stars. I read the first one a while ago so I am a bit fuzzy on some of the details. This one picked up immediately after the first book ended. Like, they could have been one book it was so continuous. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, I would just suggest maybe going back and reading the last few chapters of book one if you don't remember it well.
Once again, definitely read the content warning at the front of this book. I did have some issues with the way the abuse between Porter and Remi was portrayed. I really do think that the author had the best of intentions when writing about the trauma of abuse but I just really didn't love the parts where Crow told Remi that she had to stop being a victim. Really the whole thing wasn't treated with the weight I expected so I was just a bit surprised.
I did appreciate that there was more actual street racing in this book. I was a bit confused about how Jude and Porter's scheme was supposed to work but it all made sense by the end. I did like seeing how street racing was actually a big part of these characters lives where last time, it was basically just set dressing.
There was still no sex scene in this book that involved all three guys which was a bit disappointing. I can see that we're building to that so maybe that will be seen in the final book but when I'm reading a reverse harem, I always want a scene where are of the characters are together. That's sort of the big moment that I'm waiting for.
No spoilers, but I didn't love how this book ended. It seemed to me that there was a bit of a tone shift that I really wasn't expecting and some parts seemed a little ridiculous to me.
I will definitely read book three which is supposed to come out in five days. Even though I had some problems with these books, they're fun to read and I absolutely fly through them. And I am interested in seeing where these characters end up at the conclusion to this story.

So if you are keeping up with this series like I am, then you will have noticed that we went from a two book series to a three book series. I'm so excited about this! Fuel & Fire was AMAZING and I can't wait to find out what happens in Crash & Burn. So F&F pick up where we left off. Remi is getting closer to the Revelry crew and with that, her decisions become harder and harder. She's so torn and we feel that so much while reading. I'm loving hanging out with the guys though and getting to learn more and more about them.

So by now we all know that the douchewaffle mentioned in my review of book one is Porter. Ugh, I so don't like him. He doesn't get any better in this book. He actually gets worse. Again, possible triggers there. Secrets are starting to come out though so doucheporter better watch his back!

Also in this book we get to see a little more from Jude. You can really feel the love that Remi and Jude have for each other. It's one reason she is having such a hard time with her "job". She tries so hard to stay neutral between the two crews but it just isn't happening for her.

Again we get multiple POV and I love it. I love hearing from the guys and seeing inside their heads. Especially with Remi being the woman she is and reading what they think about her and the things she does and says. We also get some more sexy times in this book. Yummy!

This book has all the angst. Let me tell you, I'm just sitting on pins and needles waiting for the third book to see how all this plays out. I'm so freaking scared by the title and what little bit more we learned in the second book. Things are really revving up now and we are so close to the truth. Will Remi be able to keep everyone she loves after it all comes out? Ahhh I need to know!

This book had be excited, but also raging? Like I hated it but also loved it? So let's just get into the details.

Main Character Thoughts

REMI Remi and her relationship with her brother is infuriating. Because honestly how can he be so blind? I hate that she will do anything for him (but also love it because I am the same way) her loyalty to her brother... even though he has given her 0 reasons to be loyal... cause 90% of her issues in this second book. I love that she felt safe going to Crow for help, I love that we are getting to see more of their bond break. I hate that she tried to remain neutral between the boys and her brother, because it's very clear there is no neutral.

TRENTON Trenton was Trenton, the banter was epic and he was sweet as usual... but he didn't really stick out in this book. Not a bad thing, just not much to comment on.

HAYES Hayes is so damn smart, and I love and hate him for it. I hate that he dug up all of that dirt on Remi, and than hide it from everyone??? WTF WAS THAT? Why didn't he ask her about it? He just assumed the worst, which makes for good plot but was annoying. The fact that he also didn't tell the guys? Also seems so weird to me, these guys are supposed to be loyal to each other but I didn't see a whole lot of that in this book.

CROW Did I want to murder Crow for the way he handled things? YES. Did I want to hug Crow for the way he handled things? YES. He has this infuriating way of handling things in a brutal/bullying manner, but also his moment where he was comforting Remi was the cutest shit ever. But than 2 seconds later at his "sacred" track he was an asshole again. Don't get me wrong I love an asshole MMC but the back and forth and denial and anger is frustrating. The scene on the track was HOT HOT HOT though.

Side Characters
Jude: I am so glad that Jude now knows about Porter... but what the actual hell was his reaction?? 100% super frustrated with Jude, waiting for him to gain communication skills.
Porter: He deserves even worse.

❌Elements I didn't love❌
▪️ The relationships are finally building only just to be blow to bits.
▪️ Honestly the ending and their reactions... super confusing. Do they love her/hate her? Want to hurt her? It's unclear.
▪️ Mad that she got dragged to the meetup/lack of communication between all characters.

🖤Elements I did love🖤
▪️ Multi-POV
▪️ Banter
▪️ Short Chapters
▪️ Cliffhanger for next book
▪️ Remi FINALLY getting/asking for help!!

Overall, I did enjoy this book and I am excited for the next one, it just felt like it was missing a little something. If you like reverse harems I would 8/10 recommend to you. Hopefully this next book is much more clear? The ending is honestly confusing and I'm not super sure where Jude went? Like he just left... and they act like Remi can stay with them but also are just waiting to kick her out? Its just missing something and I am hoping for more clarity with the last book.

Freaking amazing and totally powerful book

Omg this book blew me away. It was like being sucked into a hurricane with its intense storyline with so much action all the twists we see the main female character Remi go through with each of the hot sexy guys she is starting to feel things for from the hot steamy moments in this book. To also her brother and the horrible Porter and the twists and turns they take in her journey in this book.
To then be blown away by the ending leaving you to pick up the pieces of your head after the crazy cliffhanger ending.
This book I couldn't put down and finished in a few hours it was that good totally recommend

Oh this series. I just cannot stop reading it! I really enjoyed the first book, though I thought the pace was a little fast and I wanted more development overall. In this installment, I had a really hard time with how brutal her relationship with Porter got. It was difficult to read, but also hard to wrap my head around how everyone reacted. She's been brutalized, but she still has sex with one of her guys only a few hours afterward, even though he knew that's what happened. The guys all know what's happening to her even though nothing is explicitly worded, but none of them accompany her whenever she goes home, and it happens again! But the part that I have the hardest time with, was her brother being IN THE HOUSE, knowing something was horribly wrong, but not being able to see it or help. I understand that Porter is all about manipulation, but this was heartbreaking.

I will be very glad when something happens to Porter, but I do not look forward to how her brother will react when he realizes he was right outside her door when she was being raped, or how her guys will react once they realize the depths that Porter has gone too. I hope they focus their rage and heartbreak on the right target. This one ended on a cliffhanger, so even though I didn't like it as much as the first one, there's no slowing down. I want that HEA, but I know it's going to be hard getting there.

Tropes: contemporary RH; 23 year old female with lots of secrets and a history in street racing meets 3 males involved in the local (rival) scene (1 open, flirty, and playful; 1 nerdy, awkward, and a gamer; 1 brooding and tattooed); crude language and sexy times throughout; rough sex and kink--anal sex, voyeurism/exhibitionism, sex with multiple partners at a time; characters in peril; she is currently in an abusive (physically, mentally, and sexually) domestic partnership--her ex-boyfriend is a horrible human being; gaslighting, "non-consent," and rape via ex (she usually doesn't say no because that makes it end quicker, but here she does begin to explicitly say "Stop," which Porter ignores); most sexually abusive scenes are either in page breaks or in between chapters, but they get a lot more graphic and brutal via the lead up and aftermath; mentions of death of parents/family members; deceit and hidden motivations; gun violence and various threats.

Heat rating: NUCLEAR—explicit sex, indelicate language during sex, and graphic depictions of a sexual nature used to further the story; may also include light kink; not quite enough for an EXPLICIT level (5), but takes it a level past HOT (3).

The mission was simple: find out who the heavy hitters in the underground street racing scene is and report back to her brother and his best friend. But what happens when her mission turns into one where she is incapable of seeing the checkered flag at the end of the track? The more time she spends with the Revelry crew of Trenton, Hayes, and Crow, the more she struggles to figure out why she was ever wanting to help her brother with their downfall after all. She would do anything for her brother and do anything to keep her secrets from getting out, but does that mean she is willing to betray the men she is starting to fall for and accept the abuse that is dished out to her cold from her ex? Either way, she would need to make a decision before its too late: familial loyalty or three slices of her beating heart?

Normally there is some waning in a book series between installments. The middle books are never as good as the beginning and ends of a series because there isn't as much heavy-handed action. The author is not trying to drag readers into their world or resolving all the conflicts to tie the world they had created in a bright red bow. However, Adell Ryan seems to have mastered the art of keeping things just as spicy and interesting in the middle book as she did in the first. The mystery of Remi still remains heavy on my mind and makes me desperate to find out what exactly Porter has on her that would make her willing to not only be beaten by him behind her brother's back but also raped on several occasions. The author touched on this subject in an interesting way. She made her female character compliant in her assaults only because she was afraid of what would happen if she weren't. It was incredibly true to reality and I appreciated that stance on it. Being as women all over the world will be compliant even when they don't want physicality between them and another and not define it for what it is, it's assault. Remi was no different. And it brought her to life for me.

The men are still just as yummy as ever but I was digging the fact that she has a little push and pull action with Crow despite having things pretty cemented with Hayes and Trenton. I liked that Crow resisted a lot more and was totally different than the happy puppies that Trenton and Hayes seemed to always be. It made my preference in her men shift a bit from Hayes to Crow. He was willing to get his hands dirty with Remi and that made him the idyllic protector role that I love.

This book follows Remi as she continues to explore her feelings with the three men she is infatuated with while trying to decide between loyalty to her brother and loyalty to them. It touched on some hard subjects but made me hungry to read more. I am saddened that the next book will be the last in the trilogy but I can't wait to get back to some of my favorite characters I have encountered in 2025.

Great book!

First, I want to say how much I love Remi's story. I got sucked right in from the beginning, and couldn't put it down.
Now, after giving it such a glowing endorsement your wondering why I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Well I have two problems with book 2. There may or may not be spoilers so beware.........

.
.
First thing that bugged me is when Hayes takes her for a drive in this book he repeats the her shifting for him, but the way its written make it sound like this is the first time, and some of the wording is word for word from the first book.
Second, if Porter had really kneed her in the stomach that hard, she would have bruised. There isn't any mention of a bruise. Also, she says how difficult it was to ride her motorcycle after he assaults her, but a few hours later one of the guys hugs her tightly, several times they touch her tummy, and yet she never complains of pain? Yeah ok.
Other than that, its a great book, and I am looking forward to book 3.

Fuel and Fire is the second book in the Burnout Trilogy and due to this book starting where book one ends, please read in order.

Remi is caught between a hard place when she feels she has to chose between her brother she loves and the crew she has fallen for. It would be easier for Remi if Porter wasn't still causing issues and being the villain that we all hate.

Will Remi be able to turn her back on the Revelry for Midnight Runners or is she even given a chance? Read this adrenaline filled story to find out what happens when Remi tries to leave Porter at the starting line and go forward with those she loves. The twists and turns will keep you turning the pages and the chemistry Remi has with her guys heats the pages.

Note: there is a cliffhanger that has me wanting the final book like now.

I have been anxiously awaiting this second book in the Burnout series because I absolutely adore Remi. She is still in a tough spot, but she is strong enough to fight it. Porter needs to die painfully. Like fire and explosions painfully and he is finally beginning to be seen for the two faced abusive jerk that he is. Crow, Harley, and Trenton are amazing and I love how they are coming to defend Remi and to show her that she is better than what is being done to her. There is a particular scene with Crow that I absolutely love as it shows his more tender side. He doesn't want to like her or trust her, but he is slowly beginning to and I love to see their relationship develop. I cannot wait to see where book three takes us.

A Magnificent Story/Series!!!!!

I absolutely love this series and the second installment of it. This story has drama for days. It pulls you in and keeps you glued to the edge of your seat. It has action and suspense. I love the racing scenes in it. The characters are magnificently beautiful and their personalities are stunning as they are felt throughout the story. This story engages you to the point you feel like you are part of the story. It is extremely well written and the flow of the story is superb. Remi has so many secrets that she is afraid to share and I can not wait to see what all these secrets are. We learn a bit more about the guys and her brother. The more we learn the more we want to know. It is an absolute must read and doesn’t disappoint.

Holy crap!!

Twhat did I just read???? That ending???? Wow I'm speechless and my thoughts are scattered. From the first book I was a bit confused but this book blew me away. I didnt think it could get better and wasnt sure how Remi was going to get through everything but this helped shed some light wonderfully. I love how I CANNOT guess what is coming next. I'm completely immersed in this world and dont want it to end. However there are a few more questions I have and need answers too. I'm stuck because while I want those answers and want to see what happens I dont want this series to end. And knowing the 3rd book is the final book makes me kinda sad. Cant wait for more of these guys though!

Holy hotness and heartache!

The scenes between Remi and the Revelry crew are both hot and tender. I always love the characters that open themselves to the relationship but the ones that fight it always seem to steal my heart the most. The open communication and trust between the Revelry crew is one of my favorite parts of the story.
I did have to stop and make tea right before a big story arc because I felt the tension mounting. Kudos to Adell Ryan for crafting a story I couldn't put down even though I was getting sharp pains in my heart. I eagerly await the next book and what comes next.

Cliffhanger!

Oh it just got interesting lol damn cliffhanger!

Ok so book 1 had some trigger warnings but for anybody who is sensitive to anything to do with abuse, rape etc then this is not for you
I actually broke reading this book as I felt was much more intense than book 1 with the abuse
But on a lighter note so much naughtier too 😉
Fast cars, sexy men and one sexy lady. What more could you ask for hehe
Loved book 2, the characters are coming together which works so well.
The detail the author goes into about these fast cars is impressive.
Helps the FMC sound like she knows her shit and makes it more exciting to read

Another amazing Adell Ryan book!

First off, freaking amazing read. Lies and deception catch up to everyone, whether you're lying for self preservation, to spare someone else or for any reason really. When everything seems to finally be going well for Remi, that is when it all starts to fall apart. This is a great read, I love these characters and their complexities, the racing world, the nuances that we are the reader get to navigate throughout this read. Brilliant! Now I feel like I'm rambling, so I'll just leave it there but I definitely look forward to book three!

I have picked to share Remi's lane! 😘

Remi is falling hard for 3 amazing guys but secrets are tearing her apart. She is being bullied, blackmailed, controlled, and abused (physically & sexually) by a long time family friend and business partner. She is still one tough chick though. She is a badass who has found 3 hot guys that rev her engine and keep going. Will her secrets ruin everything with them and her brothers? Will the new relationship survive? I can't wait to find out in book 3!

GO GET YOUR OWN!! If you haven’t had a chance to read this author... WHAT THE EVER LIVING DAYLIGHTS IS WRONG WITH YOU!!! & where have you been!! This series is beyond kick-ass!! Woah

This one picks up right where we left off last time. Remi's decisions become harder the closer she gets to the Revelry crew. Thankfully secrets are starting to come out and we can finally see an end to Porter's interference. I'm glad we get to see more interaction between Remi and Jude as well as how the guys POVs show how they're feeling about not being able to fully trust Remi. There's so much angst here, but hopefully book three reveals the truth of everything and the mystery surrounding Remi's secrets.

Why do I want to yell and scream right now?

Because I need to be working and this is too flipping good to stop. Adell is a master at keeping you on the edge of emotional overload and adrenaline. I want to stop because I normally hate books where people are caught in a lie but this is too frigging good that I have to see it to the end. 5 stars means I would read it again and again and when I am done...I will reread the series to make sure I didn't miss anything. On to book 3! Yay! BOO BECAUSE I HAVE TO WAIT 6 HOURS MORE.

Tangled web

The second book is clearly all about Jude finding out who is messing up his sisters happiness. In this book Jude actually gets to give his viewpoint which makes it clear he's suspicious of his best friend although he wants to believe him. Crow is still a bit of a mystery but he is wanting to believe in Remi even as he is sure she isn't being honest with him and his friends. I hope the ending is good...I like this story.

Loved it!

Things definitely heat up in this second installment! And I mean between Remi and the guys and all the drama with the car clubs. I read through this so quickly and couldn’t put it down. I was on the edge of my seat the last 25% of the book not knowing how things were going to play out. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!

Racers to the starting line!

If you are looking for a book to rev your engine then you have come to the right place. Fast cars, steamy nights, men that make you weak in the knees. I have fallen in love with this series! Remy must decide where her loyalty lies and if she. An keep all the guys in her life by doing so. Can't wait for the next one!

Review for first two books:

Good. Didn't like abuse, thought she should trust in brother, but we haven't gotten the whole story yet, and from what I've read of abuse, situation is not unrealistic.

Will definitely read the third book, ready now, but it's not out for another week... :-(

Borrowed from Kindle Unlimited.

Hold your breath

Things come to a head in this high octane story. Hold on to your seats. This second book will keep you at the edge of your seat until you devour the entire book. It has everything to keep you hooked. High speed, sizzling heat, and drama for days!! My heart aches for Remi.
