When Rocco was first introduced, I felt he came off as too brash, too impulsive, too reckless, too ignorant, and way too irreverent. In all honesty, my conclusions about him didn't change until almost the end of this story. He was nowhere near ready to be a made man, but when his uncle, Victor Pastore, calls on him, expecting him to step up when he's gone, he's got no choice. If this book was about anything, it was about Rocco growing up, maturing, and figuring out his place in this thing called life.

Then there was Violet, the girl who didn't have a clue. She didn't know what she wanted, couldn't stand up for herself, but she knew she loved Rocco. Together they were a hot mess of angst and drama and yet nothing, not even bullets, could keep them apart. Not her mother. Not her brother, who also happened to be Rocco's best friend and right hand man. Not nothing.

It took me a while to realize that this wasn't a continuation to the timeline of the Satan's Knights - it ran concurrent to it. Not only was it the beginning of Stryker and Gina's relationship (loved getting that glimpse of them), it was the start of Rocco's relationship with the Knights. I was so happy to see all of my favorites again. See... gone but never forgotten. And while I grew to appreciate Rocco and began to love him, I will always be Property of Parrish!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

I have been waiting on what feels like forever to get Rocco Spinelli's story!!!! Here it is and I have to say it was so worth the wait. If you have read some of Janine's other books then you know who Rocco is. He took over the mafia after his Uncle Victor's death. Violet is Joaquin, his number one guy's sister, and a ballerina. This would make her off limits but that isn't going to stop Rocco because these two have some explosive, melt you kindle right out of your hands, chemistry. She challenges him to be the man he really wants more than anything to be. Plus we get to see Parrish and the Satan's Knights in this book too. This book has a little bit of every thing in it. I loved it so much a devoured it. You do not want to miss this book. I love Rocco more now than I did before and some of my curiosity has been satisfied.

It's a tale of second chances and unconditional love found amongst the pages of this gritty and sentimental read set in the mafia world and it's been a story that I've been waiting for with bated breath. With its unforgettable hero Rocco, to his attraction to his right-hand man's little sister Violet, theirs is a romance bordering on forbidden while warming my heart through a youth spent as friends to their sizzling connection as adults.

Rocco Spinelli has intrigued me since his introduction in the Satan's Knights MC series of books. He had other plans for his life but was called up to take his place in the Family business and has flexed his muscles mightily throughout his time as boss. With the stain to his family name he feels like he has to prove his worth even more which has led to a rather self-involved personality, someone who's a bit jaded with his life, but there was still something about him that drew me to him. In this book readers see the chinks to his carefully crafted armor come through as his reunion with a youthful friend turns very adult as she's no longer the bothersome sister to his best friend that he remembers her being. That's not to say that Rocco's not a badass in this story...because he is. He's not afraid to shed blood and he definitely doesn't hold back when those he cares about are put in danger, which happens quite often throughout the story as there's big changes afoot in the mafia world. From start to finish he's grown more confident in his role as boss while becoming more conflicted when it comes to matters of the heart. His inner dialogues particularly pulled at my heartstrings and showed a tender heart lurking behind his tough facade. I enjoyed watching him at work while equally loving the give and take between him and Violet in a romance that made him stronger ultimately.

Violet Cabrera has been in love with Rocco since she was a young girl, following him and her brother around like a lovesick puppy. She was drawn to him from the start, understands him like no one else, and it's this longtime connection that gives him strength during the difficult changes occurring throughout this story. The only thing she wants more than Rocco is to be a prima ballerina. She's studied to be one her whole life, her brother sacrificing for it too, and I was rooting for her every step of the way to bust the stereotypes surrounding her career choice. Through it all Violet was an immensely likable heroine, sassy and tough talking. I loved the verbal foreplay between her and Rocco early on and the transition to something more mature felt natural. Violet was a strong-willed young woman, more than aware of what Rocco does as boss, but willing to stand by him as she knows what's in his heart and loves him wholeheartedly.

Rocco and Violet were a formidable couple and I was rooting for them to overcome all the danger and angst thrown their way. I enjoyed their witty, playful, and sensual banter which made for a crackling romance in a story full of gritty choices, danger, and suspense. I loved getting deeper insight into Rocco, the reluctant and ill-prepared boss, and was further thrilled by the reappearance of past characters from the world of the Satan's Knights. These characters have become like family throughout these books and I'm constantly on edge while rooting them on to get exactly what they want. On a whole the romance was satisfying while pulling at my heartstrings but the action is what kept me riveted to the pages, waiting in breathless anticipation of what will happen next!

Rocco Spinelli isn’t your average goomba. His father disgraced the family and Rocco pays the price. After all the saying “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” is imbedded in our minds. He’s being primed for a job he hasn’t earned and certainly isn’t qualified for. But he gets under your skin and you find yourself cheering for him and hoping he stays alive long enough to make the Spinelli name something to be proud of again.

Violet dreamed our being Prima Ballerina at Lincoln Center from when she was a child. The hard work, determination and sacrifice didn’t seem enough to overcome her Hispanic curvy shape and she was looked over by the one instructor that could help her dream come true. Failing for her brother’s best friend happened so long ago she never imagined he’d come back into her life and turn everything upside down.

Their connection is magnetic. They know each other’s souls. But, can they overcome all the challenges that face them? Ms. Bosco, once again, creates a mob world that jumps off the pages of The New York Post. The life is glamorous or carefree. It’s a life most wouldn’t choice. Violence, death and anarchy all interweave in her stories. What touches me is her ability to take the known back guy and give him redeeming qualities. We cry, laugh and pray fir the monster. That’s the strength of her writing. Giving us a vision of a world many will never see.

Whether you are a fan or mob stories. You will be a fan of Rocco and Violet’s story. Their blood runs deep. His words cut to the truth of the life he’s chosen.

“At the end of a man’s life he won’t reflect on all the scores he settled. He won’t revel in the power he had or the ranks he climbed to get it. He won’t count his wins, but he will measure his regrets.”

No truer words were ever written. Do yourself a favor grab this book and immerse yourself in their story.

Everybody seems to be writing mob men with ballerinas lately. I'll give the story credit for at least making Violet latino. Other than that the plot line felt very generic at points.

The story when there was interactions happening between characters was extremely interesting and compelling. You felt a connection to the characters. But most of the book you live through the main characters Rocco and Violet's thoughts. They often tell things after they happen and the passive tense drags the story down. At points the lack of action dips into a boring narrative.

Despite this I really liked the first 2/3rds of the book. The last 1/3rd though was almost all the drama being retold rather than experienced. Added to which I felt enough happened that the story itself would have been better served as a duet.

If your a fan of the series and characters I would skim through to get the information you need to stay with the story lines. Otherwise this is a lukewarm read at best.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book made me like Rocco a bit more. Previously he's come off as a chump and honestly for most of this book he was over his head. But once he went after and decided on Violet, Rocco seemed to settle and come into his own as the new mob boss. He started to kick ass and take names and there was no question that if you weren't on his side you weren't on any side. He did get thrown for a loop when things happened with his sister, so much so that he ruined the only good thing he had. Even as he talked to Violet I was glad that he did it the way that he did, he was honest with her, not lying, desite every word breaking both their hearts.

The ending was full of drama, but in a way I'm glad it happened. It allowed both Rocco and Violet to realized what was important to them and just what they would sacrifce to be together.

Straightened Out is book one in the Pastore Crime Family series and absolutely incredible. Rocco is a new mob boss taking over for his Uncle Victor. Rocco knew Violet was off limits as she is his best friend’s sister, but the chemistry and connection between them is explosive! I adored Violet and all her sass! A fantastic read from start to finish and if you love a great mafia story then this book is for you.

I loved the Satan's Knights series and it was really good to get to see Rocco in his own world, in the Knights books he's on the peripheral. As with all Janine's books there is so much emotion in the story it's no feat to become attached to these characters. Plenty of action and angst, Violet is a spitfire and Rocco at last becomes the man he's supposed to be.
Great spin off, I look forward to the next book.

Straightened Out is book one in the Pastore Crime Family series and also a new series. This was the mafia read I honestly needed. This book has dark moments and light moments. But best of all we get to see some familiar faces. Rocco and Violet are superb in this book and I can't wait to read more.

This was a semi new to me author.
I personally struggled to connect with the characters and plot for most of this, it seem to come in waves.
I'm not sure if it was just my frame of mind or what, because for the last 30% I was madly turning the pages, unable to turn away.
So if you struggle like I did, stick with it, it's worth it, even if the best bits (in my opinion) seemed a tiny bit rushed.

This book tells the story of Rocco's becoming the new mob boss and him finding his"heart". While reading the series you would never know that Rocco has a girlfriend.

This is a hot steamy bio with all the naughty bits.

Don't mess up like I did.... Read Connected before this one

Rocco Spinelli just wants one day to make his mom proud, her birthday, even if she is not around to celebrate it or for her to tell Rocco she loves him. The trouble is that his Uncle has given him an order and he has to follow the orders or reap the consequences of his actions. He’s the screw up nephew of Victor Pastore and he needs to prove his position in the family if he wants to be a made man. Sitting in the strip joint drinking and waiting to meet with Mitch to fulfill his Uncle’s orders, his attention is grabbed by the stripper on the stage. When he finally sees her face and her eyes connect with his, she runs from the stage and he is hot on her trail. When he catches up to her, she can’t face him or answer his question as to why she’s there, but she finds the resolve to snap back at him and ask him why he’s there.

Rocco needs to step up to the plate and finally take the direction his Uncle has been hoping he’d take and find his way in the organization. Now that his Uncle has given him what he’s been wanting, he will have to figure out how he can live up to the expectations of his Uncle and the family. Can he do that? Will Violet Cabrera be the woman to help him settle down and focus on what needs to be done for the family as well as for Rocco to lead the family and keep the other families from taking the power?

I have read most Ms. Bosco’s books and have always enjoyed her characters and her stories. Straightened Out was no different. It’s full of action, danger, powerful men and distracting women. I love her Satan’s Knights series and characters and loved that they were a part of this story. Parrish is always fun to read and the power struggle with Rocco and Parrish entertained me. Parrish is always a loose cannon and Rocco has no idea about the man other than what he’s seen so far. He’s in for a quite a ride with the Satan’s Knights. Rocco’s struggle to become the man he needs to be to run the Pastore family puts a bullseye on his back as well as Violet’s back as she is put in the news constantly and connected to him. I give this story a 5-star review and look forward to more of Ms. Bosco’s books.

I always enjoy a good mafia story and this one is terrific, it has dark elements-as you would expect-but also some lighter ones too. This is Rocco Spinelli’s story, his promotion within the mob, and the changes that take place within the New York mafia. Violet Cabrera is his desire and one he knows he shouldn’t have but can’t help but sate his appetite with and more.

I liked Rocco even in Connected, the prequel, yes he is self-absorbed, but he appeared lost too. He certainly shows a lot of growth in this story. Violet has such a sassy attitude and mouth, I love it. She isn’t one for taking things lying down being meek and mild, her strong character is a perfect companion for the male lead in this story, Rocco.

Some absolutely fantastic analogies are sprinkled throughout this story along with some fabulous descriptions which make it very clear exactly what is happening with vivid details. As stated there are the required darker elements and they are exciting and certainly get your heart rate pumping at times but there is also a lighter side where you find yourself chuckling. There are quite a few throwaway lines, especially with satirical humor, that are positioned perfectly.

The whole city of New York is under threat and in chaos, I am intrigued as to what is coming up in future books. This is a definite must-read series for me now.

Rocco Spinelli . . . fate has him going from low level nightclub manager to Don of an empire overnight. He isn’t ready. He has no idea what he’s doing. He feels out of control of his life, except when he is with Violet when everything else quiets down and he can focus on loving her.

Violet Cabrera has been in love with her brother’s best friend since she was 12. She’s fierce and independent and has no idea just how much loving Rocco may cost her, but she’s willing to take the chance if he lets her.

But, is love enough when there is a price on not only your head, but on everyone you care about as well?

Straightened out was raw and gritty, dark and intense. This isn’t a fairy tale romance, but one steeped in violence and angst.

Rocco’s transformation was epically stunning as he goes from literal screw up to running the entire Pastore Crime syndicate. I loved his inner monologue as he tackled this new role with a singular focus like he’d never shown before. He knows it’s life or death . . . and not just for him.

Violet is not your typical ballerina. She loves empanadas and doesn’t follow directions very well. She’s bold and sassy and challenges Rocco at every turn. She’s completely in love with him even knowing what he is becoming.

Together they are everything with a passion that burns hot and fierce. But, sometimes love isn’t enough and sometimes, love means letting go so the other can live happily. Easy roads and choices are not a part of this couple’s story,, but it is amazing nonetheless and I am definitely hooked and want more from the author when it comes to these characters and the Pastore crime family! 4.5 stars

"My mouth leaves hers and trails down her neck, sucking and licking. Marking her. Branding her. Mine."

5 Straightened Out Stars!!! WOW... I am officially in love with Rocco!

Violet has been in love with her brother's best friend, Rocco, since she was 12. She has dreams of being a ballerina, regardless of her curvy appearance. She's fiercely independent and gives just as much as she gets. Rocco is the black sheep of the family, but gets it together to run the Pastore Crime Family, he transforms into a boss and it's hot! Violet definitely gives Rocco a run for his money, and somehow he's okay with it.

This book will definitely keep you on your toes. It's passionate, raw and emotional and I loved every page! You definitely know what you're getting with a Janine Infante Bosco book and this book was no exception... I'm hooked!

When I first met Rocco Spinelli in the earlier books, I wasn’t too sure that I could ever really like him. All I saw was a playboy who lacked responsibility and was just focused on himself. In true Janine fashion, she completely changed my mind. I quickly saw the other side of him in this book. I saw the true Rocco and yes, he captured a piece of my heart!
Violet is the perfect girl in my opinion. Beautiful, curvy, smart mouth, sassy, and a huge heart.
I love the banter between these two. I love watching the ups and downs. The true love story of Violet and Rocco is a masterpiece!
Of course it wouldn’t be a book by Janine if I wasn’t crying! Victor Pastore will always be my top guy! He is just.... no words can accurately describe this man. The scenes with him had me flinching - for Rocco, had me laughing and of course ugly crying. I love Vic and I love getting glimpses of him in these amazing books.
I want more!!! I need more of this family!!
Growing up in Chicago I had an infatuation with the mob and Italian culture. I have a big, loud family so I totally relate to the family aspect of these books! As a little girl I swore I was marrying a mobster, not for the wealth but for their strength and love! I wanted an alpha male before I even knew what that term meant. I live through these books! It’s like reliving some of my best family memories!
Janine is such an amazing author and she is absolutely captivating. Don’t miss out on this amazing series!!

Rocco Spinelli goes from low level nightclub manager to Don of an empire overnight. A life lived in the shadows. I life he isn’t ready for. He feels out of control of his life. His father disgraced the family. Rocco is doing everything he can not to make the same mistakes. The things that matter to Rocco sometimes are a conflict to who he is preserved to be by other.

This isn’t a fairy tale romance, but one steeped in violence and angst with a balance of family drama and expectations. This is a complicated story with hard choices for both characters. I am captivated by this story and want more from the author when it comes to these characters and the Pastore crime family!

Rocco has a short fuse when it comes to certain things. Like a lot of us, Violet has dreams and aspirations that she’s had to put on hold due to family obligations. This is not a story that romanticizes what it means to be a part of the mafia. It shows the pain these people inflict and receive. Plus it shows how the life effects loved ones.

Got to love a story that slowly builds a relationship between two people. You can feel the heat these two create when their in the same space. They don’t act on what we can feel right away. That’s one thing that has you continually turning the page. The other thing is trying to figure out what Rocco is going to do. Rocco is the bad boy who loves the good girl but can they both live in the same space. His profession could make that hard. You think that Violet is going to be the typical good girl but you’ll find her to be a surprise.

One thing I loved was how the author had our characters talk to us – like we’re a confidant. We know a secret that no one else knows about. And isn’t that one of the main things for those that work for the mob? So many secrets. That includes the mystery of book two of The Pastore Crime Family series.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Rocco and Violet's love story and romance was never meant to be...and yet they were definitely meant to fall. When a badboy and ballerina collide... a sinner that has demons and an angel that dreams dance.... setting flames and a light into his darkness.
I'm NEVER going to get over these characters and this story. My heart. God, my heart. It mended. It healed, it cried. For the pain. The love. The burn....

You see love is an unexpected encounter that we never really calculate when it'll hit us. Call it what you want, but it's definitely written in the stars, captured by fate, and has our name on it. It becomes a game changer that makes you feel that instant connection and burning fire where your heart and soul lights up from just a touch, a spark, a connection, the butterflies, the look, or the feels. You don't know when it'll stike, but you're destined and guaranteed to feel the burn, thunder, lighting, and fire. I know you'll fall just as hard as I did and you won't regret it. You'll just make room and move Rocco Spinelli at the top of your ultimate book boyfriend list!
I wish I could rate this more than 5 stars because author Janine Infante Bosco deserves the recognition and a standing ovation!!!

This is the first book in The Pastore Crime Family and it packs a punch, in more ways than one. Rocco is making a way for himself in a world that holds him accountable for the sins of his father. It makes him somewhat averse to the responsibility that he is going to inherit, whether he wants to or not. It does not help that those in power have a low regard for his capabilities. Violet has dreamt of becoming a prima ballerina since she was a child but there are some challenges that she is facing as those that are in a position to help her are disinclined to offer her the chance and it does not help that her body has curves. Not to mention, the reintroduction of her brother’s best friend Rocco re-enters her life and spins her around like a pirouette. Rocco and Violet are two sparking wires that have a soul deep connection but Rocco knows that he has to stay away from his best friend’s sister. Can Rocco fight the forces that seem to be drawing them together? Is Violet the one that can tame this bad boy? Prepare to fall hard for Rocco and cheer him on as he finds his way in this dynamic drama filled storyline. I volunteered to read a copy of this book.

Great Mafia Read. I have to tell you Ms. Bosco is one of my favorite Mafia storytellers - those and her MC books. Her way with a storyline is not only action packed but suspenseful and romantic. They are always well written and keep me engrossed until the very last page. Straightened Out is no exception. If you’ve read some of her prior books, you should remember Rocco Spinelli. He is Victor’s nephew (Victor being a mafia boss). When Victor becomes very ill, Rocco knows he has to step up to the plate for his uncle but inside he really doesn’t want to be that man. This is his story which entails his newfound status with the mafia as well as his attraction to Violet. A girl who is totally off limits as she is his best friend Joaquin’s sister, a ballerina who is not meant for his violent world.

The storyline is magnificent. Full of action, heartaches, humor and unquestioning love. A storyline that has everything a soul capturing book should entail. I can’t recommend grabbing it up enough. It’s a total must read in this reader's opinion.

The first book in the new Pastore Crime Family series will show you a side to Rocco Spinelli we didn’t get to see before. First off, realize this book takes place during previous books in the Satan’s Knights world, so you will get a deeper insight into another point of view of how things went down. As we experience the fall of Victor, the change of power, and tragedy that overlaps both the Knights and Rocco’s world from a different perspective, we also get to know the heart and mind of a man we only got glimpses of before. Rocco will work his way into your heart, with his inability to completely compartmentalize the man and the mobster. A different leader than his uncle before him, he makes his own path, and Violet, the woman he cannot deny, eventually becomes exactly what he needs. I have to warn you though, you will swoon, Rocco may have his one version of romance, but I gotta tell you, I think every woman would love a little bit of Rocco in their lives!

Rocco!!!! I feel like I was waiting forever for his story and wow could it not have been any better. Was told with all of us readers in mind Janine out did herself. The words popped off each page calling to me. Rocco and Violet might be my fav couple. "The mobster and the Ballerina" my fav line of the story sorry for the spoiler but that has so much meaning the sweet and spicy all mixed into that few words. you can feel the heart of the story with each word and can't help but fall more in love with the story. I cant wait to read more. East to read and follow pages with a strong female lead and alpha Don in the mix makes this story steamy, sexy, and fun. With each page turn it had it's unpredictable moments that had you on the edge of your chair and itching your head like what the hell just happened. Action packed story with lots of great word building I was in love and wanted more and more once I reached the end. this 2POV story blows your mind and leaves you craving more Rocco and Violet. This is the 1st in a new series and is Rocco and Violet’s story. Rocco is the nephew of Victor a mafia boss, and he and his best friend have worked for him for years, but now that his uncle is terminally ill, Rocco needs to prepare to step up to the plate as a made man. Violet is Joaquin’s little sister who is a ballerina, and the chemistry between her and Rocco is explosive even though she is off limits. Violet challenges Rocco to be the man he really wants to be. Bringing briefly into the mix Parrish and the Satan Knights, and this is a brilliant story. This is a well written flawless story which is action-packed, emotional, humorous, and with witty banter, heartbreak, and unconditional love, which all leads to am addictive and all-consuming tale which had me totally captivated throughout. I look forward to reading more in this fascinating series and highly recommend this talented authors’ work for all.

Straightened Out is the story I have been waiting for, Rocco Spinelli is finally at the forefront giving us his all. Violet is his Underboss’s sister and that means hands off, but when your hands, heart and every inch of your soul crave her there maybe nothing that can stop him. A story that shows every side to a man that made decisions good and bad. At times I was left breathless by the connection and the chemistry that is explosive between these two. Violet danced her way into my heart and Rocco has always owned a little piece of it with his strength and determination. Their story is touched with both the dark and the light, it intertwines life and death and also acceptance and regrets. Another beautiful story that gives us not only the grit, chaos and drama but the soul scorching love that burns bright.

I don't generally read much mafia storylines and I haven't read Janine Infante Bosco in a very long time. This story moved fast and grabbed you by the throat. Violet has cared about Rocco since she was a very young girl but Rocco doesn't see her that way...can't see her that way otherwise he'd probably have to pay with his life (Violet is his best friends sister). Rocco has too much on his plate in any case. He has alot to prove to his family, to his uncle, to the boys who think he is no good because his father was no good. His chance at redemption comes but there are many twists and turns and putting eyes on Violet again changes everything. Steamy - for sure. Suspenseful -- as expected. There is more to the Pastore Crime Family and it promises to be a good series.

🤍🌹🤍Straightened Out🤍🌹🤍

The illusive Rocco took over for Victor Pastore knowing with that comes lots of bloodshed, rivals wanting him out, but was ready for everything. The one thing Rocco didn't see coming was him falling for his pesky childhood friend he nicknamed "Bug", she's full of sass, she's opiniated but most of all she's head over heels in love with Rocco wince they were kids. Their love stood the hands of times for all to see, they know the world they live in is dangerous but they're willing to sacrifice for a just a peace of that love instead of spending eternity separated from each other, author Janine Infante Bosco you've done an outstanding job with this one🤍🌹🤍

This is book one in the Pastore Family Crime Family series. What a intro! Rocco is the nephew of the Mob Boss. Rocco and his best friend Joaquin have been working for the family for years. Rocco finds out that he is going to be taking over for his uncle. I enjoyed Rocco’s reaction...are you sure there is no one else? Talk about reluctantly taking a job. Violet is Joaquin’s ballerina sister and she means everything to Rocco. I truly Enjoyed Rocco’s and Violet’s chemistry and banter. She pushed him to be who he really wanted to be and he did the same for her. I am looking forward to the next book.

Straightened Out is the 1st book in the Pastore Crime Family series and I enjoyed it. This is Rocco and Violet's story, one that included mafia romance and best friends younger sister tropes. I loved that Violet was a strong, sassy character, it made her perfect for Rocco and the chemistry between them was explosive.
This mafia romance had some dark elements but there were some lighter moments too. It was action packed, humorous, emotional with some witty banter, characters you will love and the appearance of some familiar faces. This was a great start to a new series and I would recommend it to all lovers of Mafia Romance.
