Daniel “Rayid” Tear, having defeated the necromancer of the Dow’Del ruins, travels south. His goal, to rescue Pina, the Druid of Barisel and the love of his friend Tol’geth. Along the way they will encounter remnants of lost civilizations, monstrous creatures from the depths of the under-dark, and radical human-only sentiment slowly growing in the Kingdom of Tor.
All the while in the depths of the Great Cathedral, and the heart of Sowers Vale corruption spreads like a plague. The eyes of the Great Valley’s ruinous minions firmly fixed on the city. Against such odds, what can one barely competent wizard do?
First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
Over the past year it has become apparent that my reviews are somewhat antagonistic and I apologize to those of you that have taken offense. I think I had hoped to change peoples’ minds about reviewing works of art and that seems to have backfired spectacularly. However, I am still going to be true to myself and write what I believe.
To the author: Thank you for this chance to escape reality and enjoy the world you created! Keep up the good work.
To my fellow reviewers: Messaging me and reviewing my reviews is as productive as trying to shovel water out of the ocean. Stop. I get it. Let’s just all live peacefully.
To potential readers: Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
The editing here is absolutely horrid. I recognize and sympathize with the authors note regarding not being able to hire a professional editor due to financial circumstances but there are so many free software options that you would have to intentionally be trying for it to be this bad. Everytime Ice-Speak appears it's attached to the word before it. Missing capital letters. "Currently" was spelled like a 2nd grader guessed without sounding it out. I'm usually not much of a stickler on grammar but when you have five English 098 issues in the first chapter, this just isn't ready for publication.
Good : the story was fun and gave us more of the adventure we expect from Aaron Holloway.
Bad : numerous spelling errors and incorrect words. It was as if some of the book was done via speech to text, and the program picked words that sounded the same but are spelled differently and mean something else. So there were a number of small confusing moments when I had to stop and figure out what they meant.
I really enjoyed the the book. It has a great story with great excitement, and the really cool stuff that should be in an litrpg. The world and magic is built well with fun monstirs and creatures and places to let you imagination go.
There a few words of profanity in the book but not many. Also the main character is working to improve his language so I think he can be forgiven.
I really look forward to the next book!!! I can't wait.
The universe comes more into the fore in this one and we enjoy some more background stuff, at the cost of some action... nonetheless, the plot thickens sufficiently that this reader will be happy to see the next installment in his hands and to know what happens to our favourite druid.
All in all, solid LitRPG with engaging characters. Perhaps a bit slower-paced than the first one but very satisfying nonetheless.
I did not like the ending. There were not as many typos as the first book. My biggest complaint about this book and the last is what the hell happened to the warp warg puppy! The last we hear of it the annoying fairy is supposed to look after it, then NOTHING.
The story is good and enjoyable. However like the previous book it needs to have someone proof read it. There are many homonyms or similarly spelled word used that pass a simple spell/grammar check but mean different things.
This was a good book to read although there was a lot of over analyzing and anecdotal discussion with side characters that didn’t drive the story but otherwise entertaining.
The MC starts to come into his power and learn more schools of magic but definitely has a long way to go. I hope in the next book his skills/other gifts from our world show greater application. I look forward to hopefully seeing him becoming OP. When is book 3 coming out?
