Circumstances have a way of forcing all of us to make changes whether we want to or not. Mary Bennett's sisters are moving on with their lives in one way or another. What will happen when changes thrust Mary out of her solitude?
In this Pride and Prejudice sequel, with three sisters married and Kitty mainly away from home, what is life at Longbourn for Mary. Can she come to terms with her life or does she want a change. Can her family help her. Can she have her happy ending. A delightful story. Another re-read.
This was a very interesting story that I would give 4.5 stars if I could but decided on 4 stars since I can't. The author does a really good job of writing the characters and showing how they think and why they do what they do. I loved Mary and Colonel Richard Fitzwilliam together in this book and would have liked an epilogue at the end or a bit more about Mary and her continuing to mend her relationships with her sisters but it had a decent end.
A story of Mary Bennet, how she grows and changes after all her sisters have married and gone and her love affair. It is a decent enough story but it is very short, not terribly well written and ends far too abruptly.
Events unfold quite quickly and there is no great drama until a sudden, shocking violent event just...happens with no real explanation and no real effect on he lives of the people concerned.
A very odd little book
Reread January 2023 and number of stars increased from 2 to 4. Due to the shortage of decent books about Mary Bennet I have been rereading some of the titles that I perhaps did not appreciate fully at the first reading. Submitting to Change made the biggest 'new' impression on me; in all honesty, it does still need the attention of a good editor. But reading it more slowly, I found myself feeling that the author had good ideas and that beneath it all was some thoughtful writing - it's just that the reader needs to make the effort.
I still feel the book is too short and that we need to have more 'meat' on the story. But I have purchased it and I will be reading it again in the future.
