An idyllic summer vacation… ...an unknown, merciless killer. A desperate fight for survival. Harper—a college student looking for adventure in Europe—is exploring the picturesque landscape of Slovakia with her friends when things take a deadly turn. Within a blink of an eye, a carefree vacation turns to death and destruction. People around them are dying without explanation. Death is fast, and painful, and apparently highly contagious. Ninety-five percent of people in the death zone fall prey to the killer within minutes. To survive, Harper and her friends must get out of the death zone to the quarantine center at the Czech border. But it’s not just the pandemic they need to outrun. As they race for their lives, flashbacks to Harper’s traumatic childhood threaten to cripple her without warning. The route is a devastating fire pursues them, and not all survivors are looking to get out of the city. Armed with nothing but their will to survive, will they make it to the border before they succumb?
A story of resilience in the face of the apocalypse, Death City—Dark Resistance Book One—is a page-turning, young adult post-apocalyptic adventure, perfect for fans of Kyla Stone, TL Payne and Logan Keys. *Rated PG-13 for adult themes, moderate violence, and occasional coarse language.
Passionate about reading and writing for as long as she can remember, Stephanie was inspired to create her own literary worlds by the books she has lost herself in over the years (some of her favorites include: the Harry Potter series, The Road, 1984, Wool and Station Eleven).
Stephanie writes speculative fiction in the wee hours of the night after her children have gone to sleep. She particularly loves writing stories about characters who find themselves in unusual or challenging situations, and exploring how they deal with the fallout.
Having lived on several different continents over the last ten years, Stephanie is also an avid traveler. She married her British husband in Las Vegas with Elvis as celebrant, which was just as fun as you would imagine.
After reading this book, I wanted to write and post this review to share my honest experiences toward the story.
What an incredible, action packed story! This isn’t your normal post-apocalyptic story, but where the apocalypse is actually happening, and makes for a thrilling read!
Imagine being on vacation with your friends in Eastern Europe and suddenly, people start inexplicably bleeding and dying. Not just a select few, but nearly the entire population. What started as an innocent summer vacation to explore Europe becomes a tale of survival that is so captivating and suspenseful. Our heroine, Harper is haunted by her inner demons while rounding up survivors and attempting to get to the Czech border.
There are some triggers in this book which might bother some people, which include an epidemic, an abused main character, strong language and an attempted rape (apart from the character being cornered, and the assailant’s motive being inexplicably clear, nothing actually happens).
I can’t say this enough, it is an amazing read, and I am really looking forward to seeing how the rest of the story continues.
The série DARK RESISTANCE : 0)Brutal Dawn 1) Death City 2) Night Raids 3) Bleak State.

An incredible and dangerous adventure among the cities and roads of Slovakia!
I loved this Book 1 and I read it in one go, holding my breath and wondering what would happen next.
I loved the different characters in this story (especially Harper), the mysterious plot and the many twists and turns.
It really is a "MUST READ" YA dystopia that I do recommend.
I finished this book in a matter of hours. I love apocalyptic books and this was a plesant change from the norm. Harper is a different type of protagonist she's more realistic, more human than the average badass heroines. She makes mistakes and bad decisions but she's stronger than you would expect. It was well written where you could immerse yourself in the series, it didn't just seem like a story it was exciting and heartstopping at times so much you'd just forget you're reading a book not actually in the story yourself
I found Death City to be fast paced and intriguing. Did Harper, Sara, and Joe cause the pandemic or is it just a coincidence ? I liked the multicultural aspects and love the idea of traveling across Europe with new found friends. I received a free arc of the book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review .
Riveting fast-paced book. It is a wonderful read for anyone interested in post-apocalyptic fiction. Amazing and believable main character. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
A quick read about four young people on holiday in Slovakia who get caught up in a pandemic which ravages the country, causing instant death. One dies; the others, heading for the quarantine station on the Czech border, get caught by a gang of villains. But to find out what happened, one would have to read the rest of the tetralogy.
There is nothing 'standard's about this book! The story is truly different from its beginning in Slovenia through the characters and the unfolding story! I could not put it down!
I picked this one up looking forward to the twists and turns and I wasn't completely disappointed. It was a fast-paced story with people dying suddenly, and a race to get out of the city alive, and with any other survivors. It was an enjoyable read, I just felt it was a little too short for the story it was telling, but saying that it's the first in a series so that's to be expected. Otherwise, I loved it, and would recommend it, will be looking for the second as soon as it comes out.
This was an interesting twist on a pandemic and I like that this took place in another country. Harper, the main character, has a lot of emotional baggage from a terribly, dysfunctional childhood. Her emotional triggers occur frequently and almost intrude too much into the story though I appreciate what it must take to overcome that. The young people do make a lot of mistakes and get distracted helping others but I think most of us are wired that way and would do the same until we realized there is a cost to doing so. It will be interesting to discover why some people survived and others did not (and why the so many crazies in the local militant group did). The writing and editing are both good and I look forward to next in the series.
If you want to lose yourself in a book and you like it fast-paced with twists and turns then you must read Death City. The main characters are amazing and so lovable and likeable that you can’t go wrong. A totally fantastic read that I would recommend to anyone.
