I love this book. Constantly relearn about beach and marsh species. Have to look up plover numbers now, for 2012, since MassAudubon efforts.

While the writing is nothing special, the use of plenty of full color photos, and the approachability of the descriptions make this a great entry level text for those wishing to explore the seashore. It's not exhaustive in terms of species, and instead presents only what one is most likely to encounter, further recommending it as a beginner beachwalker's text. I used it with my college bio students this evening, and they made great use of it in identifying the denizens of the rocky intertidal.
