Okay -- I didn't see that twist coming.

This is a lovely little kid's book that got a chuckle out of this 55 year old. At first it seems to be about one thing -- and then suddenly becomes another. It's a whimsical look at the power of imagination.

The full-color watercolor illustrations are cheerful and silly without being too cute. Our Protagonist's bedroom is suitably messy -- with apple cores and a stuffed Smurf on the floor. The Smurf is apparently friends with a floppy stuffed lamb ... very similar to what the Beanie Baby lamb looked like. Since this book was first published in 1990, it preceded the Beanie Baby lamb by about eight years.

Anyway, a recommended quick read.
