If you’re a Sam Smith Mysteries fan, you’ll enjoy this 17th installment. Sam (Samantha) and her right-hand gal, Faye, embark on an accidental mystery when they can’t deliver a legal document to Rosanna Mee. Increasingly concerned for the young woman’s safety, they take it upon themselves to figure out where she is and why she appears to be hiding. Once again, Sam’s personal journey is a big part of the story. This time out, her handsome psychologist hubby, Alan, is called in to help with the pro bono case. Which leads to more complications than you initially expect, including a murder. Sam’s journey is once again as interesting as the mystery.
Another enjoyable Sam Smith story! I skip around in this series, but I never have any trouble keeping up with Sam and crew. In this newest installment, Sam and Faye have been trying to serve papers on a reclusive woman who seems to have disappeared. Not ones to give up, they keep trying until they find her—and along with finding her, they find injustice and murder. I don’t want to say more because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone else, but I do recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good private eye story.
As usual, I enjoyed the story, but the characters are what make the book for me. Sam, Faye, Alan, Sweets, Rosanna—they’re all so well fleshed out that they seem like real people. I really got a kick out of the verbal sparring between Sam and Faye. And I’m very curious about Sam’s newly discovered erogenous zone. :-)
Another thing I liked in this book was the sprinkling of information about Wales—in particular, Cardiff. There was just enough to make it interesting without slowing down the story.
But, above all, I’d really like to know where the author finds all of Sweets’s bad jokes! He seems to have an endless supply, and I hope we’re going to see more of them—and him.
I do enjoy this series, each one with a fresh case or two to solve alongside character development and some nuggets of history. The humour is delightful, too.
This installment stirs a political theme, which I related to in regard to what happened to my disabled husband a few years ago - government cutbacks and false reports - we fought and won but it was a despicable and unnecessary trauma. I thought this point was portrayed well.
A quick read but meaningful in many ways, well-written and enjoyable.
The Sam Smith stories continue to enlighten me, not only about Wales, but also about social issues. In this story, you'll learn about agoraphobia, among other problems. Sam's hunky husband, Alan, comes to the rescue. And wait for the nice surprise at the end.
Intense from the start to the surprising ending. Many twists and turns with believable characters and intriguing plots that keeps your interest until the end. Would recommend this for anyone who loves a good mystery.
