On the grounds of Old College, Oxford, a night-time prowler of alarming size and ferocity is attacking students. David Smith begins to suspect that his housemate, a fanatical Egyptologist called Bellingham, and the ancient mummy laid out in Bellingham's relic-filled room, may be connected with the sinister goings-on...

The Mummy is classic horror. When things start to get ugly from people being attacked by an unseen force to almost being killed, David starts joining the dots together when he is almost attacked by the same force, but being a doctor, supernatural or paranormal doesn't exist for him then how will he explain the events happening around the college to the people connected to Bellingham?

Overall it's a child's horror fiction but the ending could have been better as I didn't like it at all. Overall one-time read.

quite good but nothing special but i love the book

This was my 8 year-old son's bedtime reading book last week. I want to start introducing him to more classic stories so I thought an abridged version of a classic horror story was a good way to start. This was very different to most things we have read together, partly because there were no child characters, just men. But this did give me the chance to do lots of posh, oxbridge type accents which was fun (although I did keep forgetting what voice belonged to each character). My son enjoyed it but I don't think it was quite as scary as he was expecting so thankfully we've not had any nightmares to deal with.
