Scott Baron is an American author with a penchant for oddball stories with O. Henry-esque twists.
Born in Hollywood, Baron credits growing up in Los Angeles with skewing his humor towards the offbeat and absurd. He studied abroad in Italy during his college years, returning to Los Angeles to work in the film industry as an on-set medic. In addition to writing shorts and novels, Baron is also a screenwriter of both feature and television scripts.
Struggled through about 1/2 of this and just couldn't be bothered to finish it. Partial spoilers below will explain why. It gets a 3 as the writing was competent, but it pissed me off.
Where the first three books were interesting and had a lot going on, these have one gimmick, invisible enemies that keep coming. I could see that in the first book in this sequence, but when the exact same thing starts off the next book I was just frustrated. Could be that book 6 (third of this collection) may have been better, but it was too much for me in a crowded book market with more entertaining options.
Scott Baron knows exactly how to push his readers' buttons. He touches every emotion that I have. I swear he does it deliberately in his work.
The action was fantastic, the storyline is an absolute joy, and the characterisations are just 'The Dog's'. These people - who have grown to be our friends - are in danger, and they have to use everything in their arsenal. And I do mean EVERYTHING. As the team go through hell, and get closer to each other, I was so emotional (no surprise there then!). A riveting tale of good and bad, greed and love. There's a number of the author's TwistyTwists™ which I adore, and the ending of each book...wow.
I feel like I've been mauled by a giant tiger one minute, and then cuddled by a very large, soft fluffy kitten the next. Whatever the characters do, and wherever they go, I'll be there. Hanging. On. Every. Word. Excellent stuff. I adore this series.
What a fantastically enthralling series! I like reading in big chunks, so I really enjoy reading Box sets and omnibuses. I still have at least one more set in this series - but so many more set in the same universe(s)! Yes, reading Dragon Make first does give you spoilers of certain facts related to the other series that all tie together, but given what I’ve been reading - I doubt it will spoil even one page in any of the other storylines. So hop on in. The water is fine and the writing is perfect for a summer time binge!!! ( it’s June of ’24 at the moment) ENJOY!!
Many, many thanks to the crafter of these fine tales. Mr. Scott Baron, you have joined the pantheon of writers that have captivated my need to read. Thank you.
Really enjoyed reading this series just as much as the previous three books and are looking forward to reading the next in the series and highly recommend reading them.
