I began this workbook last fall with a group from my local church and studied not only the Psalms, but how they relate to other books in the Bible. I like the way the book is organized, beginning with David’s heritage and ending with how the psalms he and others wrote foretold the coming of Jesus and happenings in the New Testament. Besides the story of David, the book studies psalms in categories, i.e.: wisdom psalms, historical psalms, psalms of pilgrimage, Messianic psalms, Alleluia psalms and to my delight—alphabetical psalms. This was a lovely discovery for me given my predilection for alphabet books. One of the assignments was to write an alphabet psalm, and I thoroughly enjoyed that exercise. The book came with a video of the author, Father Joseph Ponessa, who elaborated on various aspects of the text. Overall, it was an excellent guide to studying the Bible and led to some lively discussions.

This was a first reads win. I was very excited to have won this as I am currently studying to be a catechist. This will assist me on my journey which is long as I work and have kids. Thanks again for the opportunity to add to my growing knowledge. It is thought provoking and provides a more depthful look into David and Psalms which I felt was quite boring before reading Come and See. I am hoping to win some of the others that have been listed as I feel I can really benefit from them.

I received this book through a First Reads giveaway.

I would like to start this by saying that I am not Catholic. I missed that part when I was signing up. I still went through the book, and although there are subtle differences in what I believe, it was nice to look at it from a different faiths perspective. It was an interesting lesson for me, but I am sure I will pass this along to a Catholic friend.

Somehow I missed that this was a Catholic Bible Study, and I am of the Lutheran Faith. I did look through the book, and it appears to be a thought provoking bible study. I plan on passing this book along to a wonderful retired nun that I do volunteer work with. I am sure that she will find a good home for it.
