The tips to help you get to the top of the pile! Whether you are looking to build a new CV or dusting down an old document, this section-by-section guide to industry best practice will help you create a resume to get you the job you want. Anyone with a background in career coaching will say you compete with an average of 249 other applications for every job you apply for. In the current climate, the market is more competitive than it has been in generations and the need for your résumé to stand out more critical than ever. As recruiting employers prepare to sift through applications, they will be looking for reasons to screen candidates out; for mistakes, gaps in experience – anything to whittle down the pile as quickly as possible. Where they may have spent 30 seconds scanning a résumé, they will now be spending an average of 10 - if you’re lucky! That may sound overwhelmingly daunting, but fear not because I have written this book to give you the points and notes that recruiting employers are looking for. With over 40,000 hours experience in employment services, I have helped thousands of people into jobs - from executive leaders to blue collar, frontline roles. I have managed national and international operations and been responsible for the screening and recruitment of hundreds of employees. My two decades in this field has given me a unique perspective and insight and I want to help you create a résumé that doesn’t only sell you best, but also exceeds the expectations of the employers receiving it. I want to help you avoid the mistakes I have seen countless applicants make. My structure is simple and follows the natural flow of creating a résumé with example statements for different industries and gaps in employment. I can’t explicitly guarantee you interviews and jobs, but I can give you an edge on the competition. You will no doubt establish the best way of working through this yourself but, as a starting point, I would suggest booking out a couple of hours and having a print out of your current résumé handy to scribble notes on as you work through the book. Alternatively, if you are starting from scratch, you can follow the same principle with a blank piece of paper. Following a brief author’s bio we are going to get straight to the tips that will make your experience jump off the page and keep your document at the top of that employer tray. Ready? Let's do this!
