Great Step-by-Step Mushroom Cultivation Guide

While I myself actually have mushroom sensitivity so I can't enjoy them, I lived for over a decade in a northern California region well known for mushrooms. In fact, in our small town, we had a yearly mushroom festival. My specialty food store was always a part of that. So, I was intrigued when I saw this book at one of my favorite book review sites. We had a lot of mushroomers foraging for wild mushrooms, supplying some local restaurants, but I knew no one who specifically cultivated mushrooms. The author provides wonderful step-by-step detailed instructions about how to start cultivating mushrooms yourself, from picking the species to harvesting to even selling them if you so desire. There are even a few recipes. He starts with why cultivating mushrooms is a good idea, provides an overview of the entire process, and then digs deep into each step. Each chapter even has a detailed summary. If you've ever considered cultivating mushrooms yourself, this book could certainly get you started and clear up any confusion about how it is different compared to growing vegetables and fruits.

The book was interesting.
I liked the chapter summaries it was a good reinforcement of the information given. I never thought about growing mushrooms and yes there have been times when I was tempted to send away for a kit. I just may try this not so much for making money but I love mushrooms. After reading the information I am not sure if I will try growing them. The temperature issue may be a problem living here in Florida. I did find the book interesting. I do think that I may pass this book on to my son. Where he lives most homes have basements and getting to the lower temperature would be easier. If you are thinking about growing mushrooms this is not a bad book to have. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

I love mushrooms which is why I picked this book.
The book started with stating the benefits of mushroom from nutrients, ease of growing, cost and profitability. It showed the varieties of mushroom (with distinct pictures), their nutritional value and the way to cultivate them.

This is a very informative book with easy to follow instructions. I feel it completely gave me the necessary tools to start a mushroom business if I wanted to.

Easy to follow, well-organized book on how to grow various varieties of mushrooms. Chapters cover different aspects/stages of the process, with a handy chapter summary after each chapter.

Incredibly repetitive but good for getting the basics down. Absolutely terrible business advice located in the last two chapters of this book.
