A forgotten cold case. A long dead teenager. A detective that can't let go.
Every cop has an unsolved case they can’t let go. Georgina Harrison was mine. I can’t tell you why… Maybe it was because she was just a teenager, sweet sixteen, that it stuck in my craw. Maybe it was the sight of… you don’t want to know. Maybe it was because I was still a rookie when I accompanied Harry Starke to the crime scene that God awful day. Maybe it was all of those things, but try as I might to move on, I couldn’t. And every year on September 26th the memory of that crime scene came flooding back to haunt me. And every year I opened the case file, flipped through it, and then closed it again. This time though, I won't quit until Georgina gets the justice she deserves.

Georgina - Blair Howard (Tennessee) Lt. Kate Gazzara series Book #8 5★ The scariest thing about this story is that in reality this kind of thing actually exists. 16 years have passed, and Georgina's death still haunts Kate night and day. Solving this one might just require a magician before time runs out. Blair Howard’s Georgina is a haunting tale of cases unsolved. Telling the tale of a teenager’s murder, the beliefs that follow certain events, the lengths people will go to, and the ticking of the proverbial clock to close a case. A lot of questions, still remain. The Red Moon, that occurred at that time, is about to happen again. Most of the young people, who were friends, with the murdered girl, are still around. Secrets are revealed in only the way, that Kate can manage. It's a read that you will want to finish in one long sitting.
Georgina was a 16 year old girl when she was brutally murdered. This was also one of Kate Gazzara’s first cases with the Chattanooga PD homicide squad. The case has been cold since the onset. Kate and her team, including the newest detective, Jack North, take on the cold case. This is a procedural, as are all of the Starke and Gazzara novels, and is fascinating. It deals with the cold case, a group of 32 year olds who were 16 and carefully protected at the time of the murder, Satanism, internal politics at the Police Department and adjustments within the team. Oh yes, it also spends some time with Kate’s new male interest. What more could the reader want? Thanks to the author and publisher for an ARC for an honest review.
This is book eight in the Lt. Kate Gazzara series and sees Kate now promoted to Captain and working with a small team. They are all getting over the death of their colleague and friend Lennie Miller and being called into the Chief’s office, brings the news that his replacement, Jack North, will be joining her team in the next few days. Kate also wanted to ask her boss for permission to re-open an old cold case of hers, the murder of sixteen year old Georgina Harrison. It was one of the first murder cases she worked with her old partner Harry Starke and the day before was the anniversary of her death. It is a case that has haunted her for years and all the main suspects were only sixteen themselves and the friends that Georgina was hanging out with in the woods, on the night of the Blood Moon. It is a case that has caused nightmares for Kate on every anniversary and had her checking out the old case files every year to see if she can find anything new.
It was a very graphic murder, with a large number of knife wounds and even some possible post-mortem carving done on her body. This all happened back in the time of lots of demonic and devil worshipping tales, but Kate never really took much notice of this. She reckoned that the group of friends must have known something about what happened. She sets her team of Sergeant Janet Tolliver, who was teamed with Kate as a partner when Kate’s old partner Lonnie Guest retired; Sergeant Arthur Hawkins, known as Hawk, is old school and the oldest and only a year away from retirement himself; Detective Anne Robar, only a few years older than Kate who is now forty three, married with kids and now Jack North, who has been in trouble with IA (Internal Affairs) in his previous placements and is on his last chance to continue in his career.
Kate is also one who has faced enough of her own problems with IA and also lots of sexual harassment with her previous Asst Chief Finkle. She knows exactly what it is like, but she blames herself for Lennie’s death and isn’t quite ready for a new member of the team to take his place! She is told by the Chief to work closely with him, to avoid any further issues or any complaints. They all start on the cold case and team up in pairs to re-interview all the old suspects. Kate goes off to see the Medical Examiner, Doc Sheddon, who worked on the original case as well, who has ideas about the moon phrase and also the odd markings on the victim’s chest, which were done after her death. Georgina’s friends were a close group at the time of her death, but now some of them have split and moved further away. A couple of them have done well for themselves, but another is in prison for aggravated assault. The others all blame him for the murder, Georgina was his girlfriend at the time and he supposed left first, but all the stories are different.
None of the suspects could be aggressively questioned at the time, as they were minors, but it is now some sixteen years later and that no longer applies. The five suspects were Shelly Pinkowski-Brenner; Regis Taylor; Buck Halloway; Junior Cole and Lillith Morris – now Lilith Overby. None of them are particularly happy to see the police officers turn up unexpectedly at their doors and it seems some have more to hide than others. The only one that seems happy is Regis Taylor, who is questioned in prison. He still carries a flame for Georgina and is in prison for an action that Kate herself may well have considered justifiable. He is certainly not what Kate expected. One of the suspects causes trouble for both Kate and her new team member Jack, as she makes a complaint about their questioning! Others can’t be contacted, one hides away due to mental health issues and none of them reveal much about what actually happened that night. Kate wants to finally get justice for Georgina and to be able to close her case at long last.
A somewhat different look at Kate and her work with the Chattanooga Police Department. The storyline adds in the beliefs of people who worship several unusual deities and who use the moon phases for specific rituals. The normal manner of investigation will not reveal who is responsible and after initial complaints about her new team member, he brings vital research for the case and even puts himself in danger, trying to prove his worth and position in the team. An intriguing storyline with a hard to solve case, from Kate’s early days as a detective. I loved learning more about the other team members, already knowing a good bit about Janet, from a previous book, and especially seeing how Jack would manage to interact with a well formed and tight team. Another excellent read from the author and I can’t wait for more stories about either Kate or Harry. I would recommend this author and both series to one and all! I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This story follows the previous one and introduces us to a new team member replacing Lennie. This story again relates to one of Kate's old cases that she never closed out. In this story which happened 16 years earlier, a body was discovered in the woods and the suspects were all in their teens. As the anniversary date of this case got close, Kate went down to where the cold cases were stored and brought it to her desk. That same day she was notified that Jack would be joining her team replacing Lennie.
The day that Jack joined, the team had just settled down to discuss this cold case. The members were going to re-interview the prior suspects. They split the interviews up and Kate and Jack went to interview Lila. At the interview, Jack appeared to the suspect to be pushy and after the interview was finished, the following day, this person made a complaint about Jack to the police chief. Jack was already on shaky grounds, but Kate who was at the interview along with Jack stood up for him. One of the suspect's wife kept the group from interviewing her husband and when they went back to re-interview the suspect, that person committed suicide. At this person's funeral they caught up with the last person that they had been trying to reach.
As Kate was given a timeline to finish the case and as it came closer which corresponded to the "Blood Moon" Jack had gone on an errand and was not able to be reached. As the remaining members of the team went looking, Kate went to the sight of the original killing. While there she found Jack who had been attacked and also ran into another party. Kate wound up being held at gunpoint.
To discover who the party responsible for the killing 16 years earlier and how Kate and Jack mad out, you need to read this book. It is well worth it.
I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. This is another great story in the Kate Gazzara series and Mr. Howard does his normal awesome job of telling it. My only problem is that I'm running out of words to say how great it is. I feel like I'm just repeating myself. I'm sure it's because all of the books are the same high-quality work Mr. Howard consistently turns out. Having said the above, I have to admit that the tone of Georgina felt different than the others; not bad, just different. I couldn't figure it out at first but after thinking about it for a while I put it down to two things. First, Kate is dealing with an old case that has haunted her for years. It has always eaten at her that the case was never closed and that fact is apparent in how she approaches the case this time around. Second, she is having to adjust to a new team member who seems to attract trouble like honey does flies, and quite often through no fault of his own. The fact that he is replacing Lenny, a close team member, is just salt in an open wound. I think these two facts contributed to my feeling of a different tone to this story. And change can be a good thing. I must admit to being a bit perturbed when the killer was revealed. I felt like it literally came out of left field. Mr. Howard obviously had information the reader couldn't possibly have and so had no way of figuring out who the bad guy was or even having a clue. Then I realized that in police work, quite often that's the way it works. Detectives follow leads and someone who was never on their radar suddenly becomes a prime suspect. So hats off, Mr. Howard. Great job.
A cold case from when Kate was a rookie, and working with Harry Starkey. A young girl murdered on a blood moon, unsolved for sixteen years. It was the anniversary of her death, Kate always remembered. Next day she went to the file morgue and pulled the box to sign for another year, but she didn't. She took the box with her and thought how she could get the chief to agree to her reopening the case. The chief wanted to see her, Lennie 's replacement would be starting within days, but he agreed she could take another look at Georgina' s case. Was it ritualistic or kids out of their depth. Doc thinks the former, Kate believes the latter. None of those teenagers present in the woods that night were willing to talk, except her boyfriend. Currently in jail, he speaks freely and seems genuinely sad about her death. The others seem keen to blame him, a thorough investigation throws little light on the event, but they all seem to be deceptive. General concensus is that one of the friends killed her, no one else was there, or were they.?. Satanism, abuse, concealed rooms, suicide, not forgetting murder. It's all here, wound round a story fact & fantasy. Very good read.
I have read all the books in the Kate Gazzara series and I have loved every one of them. In my opinion, Georgina, the 8th book in the series, is the best one yet! Reading these books in order will enhance your experience, but this one can certainly be read as a standalone. Blair Howard is an excellent author and is able to spin a tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat. In this book, he introduces a new detective to Kate’s team. Jack is hard to read, and I spent a good part of my time wondering if he would make it in this role. I have a feeling that there are more depths to discover in the future. You know how some books are so good that you can’t wait to finish them and find out how they end, but then you wish you could pick the book up again and there would be more to the story? That’s how I feel about Georgina. You can’t go wrong with this one!
A 16-yearold girl was gruesomely murdered on the bnight of the blood moon. 6 close friends had been together that night. By the time Kate Gazzara arrived the next morning, the parents, kids, and attendees of a sporting event had trampled the scene. To top it off, she had to break in a new detective who was replacing Lennie. His name is Jack North. The case was a cold one that bothered Kate for a very long time, and she reopened it. Between red wristlets, strange cuts on the deceased, and a nasty suspect, she had her work cut out for her. Doc Sheddon thought that the cuts were symbolic of something. As the investigation progresse, the stranger it became. You will have to follow the investigation to learn if it was from really aberrant behavior or just a depraved killer. Another good read from Blair Howard.
Kate, a Detective for the fair city of Chattanooga, hopes to reopen the one case that has haunted her for years. As the story progresses a new team member is added, the rabbit hole in the case grows deeper, and solving this one might just require a magician before time runs out. Blair Howard’s Georgina is a haunting tale of cases unsolved. Telling the tale of a teenager’s murder, the beliefs that follow certain events, the lengths people will go to, and the ticking of the proverbial clock to close a case; I highly recommend this book and author to any lover of crime dramas.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
This is another success for Blair Howard. It flows beautifully with a story line that gets you hooked. If this is your first read then Kate Gazzara is a sassy, independent, beautiful detective who is very loyal to her team even though a new team member is joining to replace a fallen colleague. The story takes you through the trials and tribulations that entails. How hard it is for all the team including Jack, the new team member. The cold case they investigate is one of her first when she was working with Harry Starke and definitely proves challenging with the suspects. You may think you know who it is but, as with all Blair Howards books, there is always a twist at the end. Another must read.
Kate, a Detective for the fair city of Chattanooga, has a cold case she just cannot get off her mind. Why she really can’t put her finger on it but, she was just a rookie cop working with Harry Starke and it was Georgina just a teenager and such an awful day. There were 4 suspects all teenagers and their parents had to be present to question them. So this made it hard to do. This was another one of those hard to put down books and was a bit hard to read. Things like this should not happen, but the scary part is it does. So if you like to read books that keep you on edge and are hard to put down this is a must read. Looking forward to the next one.
Another winner in this series. As I’ve come to expect from this author the storyline was unique, the mystery well plotted, and the characters well developed. I set the bar high for Blair Howard and he never lets me down.
Kate asks the chief permission to resurrect a cold case that was one of the first murders she worked. She’s determined to solve it this time but with witnesses stonewalling, a new team member, and no leads she has her work cut out for her.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review. One person found this helpful
I received a copy of this book on the understanding I give an honest review. So ...
It's brilliant! I enjoy the Kate Gazzara books but this one is the best yet. A plot that develops nicely and keeps you guessing right to the end. But rather than just being a whodunnit the story also reveals more and more about Lt. Gazzara as a person, the woman behind the badge. Definitely a page turner as you want to delve deeper and deeper into the story. The only bad thing is when you've reached the last page and have to wait for the next book.
Every cop has that one case that wasn't solved and haunts them. This is Kate's case. Every year she looks again to see if anything jumps out, this year she is determined to solve it. This book takes you to dark and strange places. It will drag you along at a fast pace so keep up. The storyline is dark, the book is so well written that you will keep reading to the end. Get your copy now. I was given a copy to read and this is my opinion.
Georgina by Blair Howard is a fitting addition to the It Late Gazzara detective series. It is well deserving of a five-star rating. The novel has a captivating story line and the new characters are well defined. As with the other seven novels in the Gazzara series once you start reading you will find it difficult to put down. I highly recommend Georgina to all Blair Howard fans. I am looking forward to the novel in this series.
Kate, now a Captain, is the head of a new crew, are reinvestigating an old case, fron 2004. One that her and Lenny had done, back in 2004. Still a lot of questions, still remain. The Red Moon, that occurred a that time, is about to happen again! Most of the young people, who were friends, with the murdered girl, are still around. A NON-STOP READ!! Secrets are revealed in only the way, that Kate can manage!
This was my first Kate book, and I really enjoyed it. I know I should have started with the first book, but I just wasn't sure if I would like the Kate series simply because I love the Stark series so much. Silly me. I should have trusted that Blair Howard would do great by Kate, and he did. 7 more Kate books in my very near future <3
Georgina (A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel Book 8), my sixteenth read from author Blair Howard and the eighth in the Lt. Kate Gazzara series. Well-written and enjoyable detective fiction, each book in the series seems better than the last. I look forward to the next book in this series when it's published. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Captain Kate Gazzara reviews case files on the anniversary of a murder she and Harry Starke were unable to solve. The main suspects were minors at the time and could not be questioned without their parents being present. Kate gets permission from the Chief to reopen the case. This is another page turning thriller in this series. A surprise ending I did not see coming.
Another great book.Kate is a great Dt.Going back to a cold case she was on 16 years before. The people involved in the un solved murder of a young girl.Nobody is talking and the closer she gets to the truth , the more bizarre the case becomes. The ending is unexpected but good.
Kate is back at it again. In this book she takes on a cold case. In her meticulous way with twist and turns, she solves the murder. The are lots of strange things that happen in this book. But with Blair Howard's unusual way he untwists the plot. A book worth reading. Get this book you not be disappointed.
I really enjoyed reading Georgina. Wasn't to keen on the rituals but was well written. Blair still has the ability of writing great story. Kate is still a remarkable woman and an amazing cop.
Another exciting police procedural story in the Lt. Gazzara series. A15 yr old cold case gets full attention with all the emotional drama and action we've come to expect. You won't be able to stop reading until the very end.
Again Kate comes through, but not as easy as you would think. Blood Moon has her thinking twice and coming up with 3 different sceneries . Surprise ending caps a great story.
Blair writes as if you were there, out interviewing suspects, attending post mertens, etc. You really get to know his characters! He's very creative with his plot lines!!
I am totally enjoying the Kate Gazzaea series. Each book is reviting and unputdownable. Georgina took a turn I wasn't expecting in the end and I hope the continuation pops up in another book. Soo hooked on these excellent books.
Captain Kate Gazzara doesn't disappoint. A new member joins the team. The plot is filled with mystery and action. The characters are well-developed and believable.
Kate keeps getting better with each book. She had to think outside her comfort zone this time. I read from start to finish. I received this book as an ARC reader and this is my honest opinion.
