Misty Black is an internationally bestselling and award-winning author of dozens of picture books in several languages. When she's not busy crafting magical stories that inspire and delight children worldwide, you'll find her exploring her faith, spending time with her family, or engaging in a friendly competition over her favorite board games. She's only a bit competitive, or so she says (wink).
Her passion for cooking runs deep, as she learned the importance of a home-cooked meal from her mother at a young age. And while she can brew up a mean pot of soup, she'd be the first to admit that her singing voice leaves much to be desired.
She loves the great outdoors and camping in the mountains. However, she doesn't get to go as much as she'd like. But that doesn't stop her from seeking adventure in other ways, mainly through reading and writing.
Her ultimate goal is to inspire a love for reading in every child so they, too, can embark on thrilling adventures without ever leaving the comfort of their own minds. If you're looking for a family-oriented author with a passion for inspiring young minds and a willingness to sing off-key while whipping up a cheesy lasagna, look no further!

QuillIam the porcupine in the picture book Can Quilliam learn to Control his Temper is a well written by Misty Black an illustrated by Ana Rankovic. This book describes and shows the problem Quilliam has. You can read and see how his friends feel. But he learns how valuable lessons. I’m not spoiling the story, but I highly recommend this book. Great job⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I am a fan of Misty Black’s books. She uses cute animal characters to teach children important lessons. This book teaches children about how they should control their anger.
Quilliam is a porcupine who is a good student who works hard and loves to play with his friend. But, he has one problem - he has a very bad temper.
Misty is amazing! Love her stories. A story of friendship and how emotions and/or temper can affect our relationships. Learning tools to use in class. Cannot say enough about the illustrations, beautiful!
Read this with our 2.5 year old after a tantrum. He went from hot to cool as a cucumber thanks to this story. We will work on these calming techniques too.
Another brilliant book by Misty Black, who manages to combine cute stories with helpful advice.
When Quilliam gets cross, his face goes red, his fists clench and his spikes ping out everywhere. He realises this is not good and learns how to control his temper. Firstly by that wonderful medicine of laughter, but also calming thoughts, and that way his friends are no longer scared of him.
I loved the facial expressions of Quilliam, they are spot on for a furious child who cannot control their temper, and made me laugh along with him. The illustrations are cute and his friends all have individual characters too.
Another great teaching and learning tool, and my 3 year old granddaughter loved it.
This cute story is part of Punk and Friends. Quilliam has a wicked temper and when he loses his temper his friends get very nervous, some even get hurt! So Quilliam decides he is going to learn to control his temper. Will it work? With the great friends he has it’s sure to work!
I so enjoyed this book! It’s a great way to teach children that there a consequences to having a temper tantrum, they might not throw quills but words can’t hurt just as much sometimes! Teaching children to control their tempers as children will help them as adults. Their friends will love and support them while they are trying too!
Social behavior lessons in the adorable form of a story. Learning a few ways to stay calm and handle anger is the topic of this adorably illustrated book.
