This story was slow repeating the same thing in every chapter. It didn’t move until the end. No drama, no real build up, and then the action all happened at the end. It wasn’t an exciting story but it was ok. At the beginning she said her and the twins were friends since the 4th grade and that 4 years ago, but they were juniors in HS. That didn’t add up at all. Then when talking to Coka she said they knew each other since the 6th grade. I will say that other than that it wasn’t many errors that I noticed so I give credit there.
What made the book interesting is what a lot of authors do and that’s make the MFC seem like this strong individual. Since I love seeing mentally strong black women in stories I get attached, but then they turn them into every other female character not doing anything with their lives. Cari seemed like she had a plan for her life she talked about being different and making it out of the projects, but then all of a sudden that changed after getting with Cairo. Now all of a sudden you don’t want to go to college. Using the excuse of getting a job and helping her mom with the bills is now a priority. It talked about dude making money from his lifelong dreams of being a drug dealer and making money. But it’s like Cari just decided she was gone live off him I guess because we didn’t get an update on what she’s doing with life after graduation. Not even the job to help her mother. 🙄🙄 This made me no longer care for her character, she didn’t stand on nothing but not getting played by another dude. I get they’re young but that’s why I don’t like reading coming of age books. I thought the author was going to jump ahead at least 5-10 years but even now they’re still kids. I wouldn’t have read this if I knew they were going to stay teens the whole time. I thought the beginning was just like the back story of how they got together and then we would jumps years ahead, but nope.
But for real this story was kind of boring. If the author hadn’t taken so much time repeating the same thing over and over, and removed some of the sex scenes the story could’ve reached the climax a lot sooner. Probably don’t need a part 2 for real. Idk if I’ll read part two, it doesn’t seem worth it. Just another book about a drug dealer and a girl being kept by him aw and cheating, and then begging to come back.
