Every Day Is A Love Letter

Rate this book
This first collection of poetry by Huntington, West Virginia author Edie Meade explores themes of romantic love, the emotional lives of children, climate change, a world shuddering under political and social turmoil, and the heartaches of death, grief, and loneliness. "Every Day Is A Love Letter" contains 35 poems that fly from the quiet mountain hollers of Eastern Kentucky to the steppes of interior Syria, from London jail cells to the unending fields of rural Ohio. Across topics as sweeping as refugees and war, widows and whistleblowers, babies and dying wishes, Meade writes a poetry of the world and our place in it. Her verse concerns itself with finding truth, revealing beauty within our struggles and courage in our vulnerability.

I've never read a book of poetry before, so wasn't sure what to expect.

This was great!

The poems drip with lyrical symbolism and tell a compelling story. They are divided into sections, each dealing with a different theme (e.g. 'love', 'environment', etc).

The phrasing is clever and twisty, with tons of great wordplay. There's a deep and languid melancholy that runs through the whole book, and spending time with these poems is a great way to spend a lazy, contemplative Sunday.
