From the rear cover of this 324 page "The sexual revolution promised people greater freedom and joy in their sex lives. Instead it has delivered record levels of sexually transmitted diseases, the legitimization and spread of pornography, greater sexual hostility between the sexes, and critically high divorce and illegitimacy rates. [This book offers a way to redirect this revolution. In this book Dr. Wetzel offers unique insights into the 17 most important misconceptions about sexuality, backed by solid, documented research. He concludes with a discussion on classroom sex education and offers a wealth of practical advice for parents on how to encourage healthy attitudes toward sex among their children."
The book starts out with some good ideas and uses the author's experience as a medical doctor as a lens through which to understand Catholic teaching of sexual wellness. It is severely dated (1998) in regards to statistics about homosexuality and AIDS -- there are claims he makes that have turned out to be incorrect over time. Where some areas are virtuous, his tone is sanctimonious and not logical -- if interested, readers may look into The Seven Big Myths About Marriage by Christopher and Jennifer Kaczor as it defends the Church's teaching of theology of the body in a more charitable and interesting way.
