Time Runs Both Ways

Rate this book
Do you ever get that feeling of Deja Vu? Is it possible to travel back in time and be a part of your own ancestry? That elderly person you met today who was interested in chatting -- was that your unborn child who has grown up and is visiting the past to get to know you in your youth? How about your grandfather who broke your heart when he died -- what would you talk about if you met him when he was twenty years old? How special are you when you introduce your Grandpa to Grandma for the first time?

On the unique date of September 9, 1999, something happened to two people. During a party, there is an electrifying thunderstorm. In the morning, the two friends and co-workers wake up in the past, in the year 1865.

Was it fate, a miracle, or something else? Together, they meet the beautiful great-great-grandmother of one of the time travelers. She was known only from an old portrait that still hangs on the wall of the family cottage in 1999. While living with ancestors, the 1999 friends fall in love and start to build a life together. It's not so bad living in the past. The Civil War is over and the country is growing. They are now part of it.

But destiny has other plans. The two of them start moving forward in time by decades. Both discover they had already played a role in their own family histories. If given a choice, do they want to return to their financially successful lives in 1999? Or will the love they have for each other, now change their desire to return? Or has Fate already decided?

Nan Adel was born in New Jersey but grew up in the West Park area of Cleveland, Ohio. Her sons were also raised in a west-side suburb of Cleveland. So, why not base her book in that area? Write what you know. She writes about time travel. Make your own conclusion.

She now lives with her husband in a small town northwest of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Good or bad, she wrote long, eventful, and silly letters to her brothers while they served in the Air Force. Yes, back in the 1970s, people still took pen in hand and wrote letters on paper, and mailed them. Letters to family and friends in other states were more like short stories than quick letters.

Nan daydreams about events that fit into her stories, then adds them to the current novel she's writing.

She has one regret -- she can't read her own novel for the first time. She can't be surprised by what happens, like first-time readers of it. It's the price an author has to pay for writing the story.

Fun Time Travel Romance

This was the most fun I've ever had reading a time travel romance. The plot has you guessing and thinking the whole entire novel. I might have been able to guess some of the plot twists, but not all. I really enjoyed reading this book and I am sure I will be thinking about it for a long time!

Hard to put down

Eternal love? An unbroken circle or a roller coaster ride of events and emotions? Brian and Lisa’s love loops back in time to link good friends and family. Then jinks sideways when selfish people or misfortune strikes. Will their love last?

Geniously woven!

This was the most amazing journey! So many details, yet the author never missed a beat. Every single thread was cleverly woven together to tell this fascinating tale of a true, lifelong love, of strong family ties, of friendships along the way, trust and faith. This is an absolute must read for fans of time travel. My only regret is that it had to finally come to an end.

The first half of the book went very quickly. I really did not want to put it down. The second half was confusing at times. I was getting mixed up as to who the characters were. Finally, the last half helped to explain everything and it turned out to be a very good book. The characters were very real. Well written.

A convoluted journey through time
This is a fascinating story, well plotted and with believable characters. I found myself caught up in their drama in spite of the distraction of the too-frequent tense shifts. Had I read this pre-publication I would have recommended more thorough editing.

Full of Love & Adventures & Twists & Turns

What an exciting page turner! I couldnt stop reading it. Captivating Beyond your wildest imagination is the love of a lifetime and their time travel adventures. My heart is racing and my eyes glisten with tears while goosebumps swarm my body as I finish the last page of Time Runs Both Ways by Nan Adel. She is extremely talented to have the ability to create and imagine this truly twisted romance time travel and wrote it with such finesse and clarity. It's perfection and I may love it more than Outlander! I highly recommend anyone who loves time travel to read this.

Like no other Time Travel book I ever read!

Unlike most of the reviewers of this marvelous book who are women, I'm a 73 year old guy who has read an enormous number of books in the Time Travel genre and I can say without question that Nan Adel has provided all who love this genre with an incredible read. Never has any novel touched me as emotionally as this. Her weaving of the most convoluted time travel plot lines amidst a family saga and timeless romance of our protagonists captivated me in so many ways. I had no idea what was coming next as the story evolved, which for me is the essence of great writing. I loved this book.

A Must Read

Gave 4 stars only because keeping up with the names and relationships took a little doing. Brian and Lisa's journey was a timeless one. Love and trust is always a challenge. Exploring the past while knowing the future and keeping it To yourself is as challenging as live and trust! To relive your ancestors way of life and truly get to know them would be better than ancestry.com. To be able to separate fact from fiction would solve a lot of problems. Makes you think. Great job Nan!
