I love a good cryptogram puzzle, so I wanted to give this book a spin. The cryptograms that I have tried so far in this book have been perfectly fine, though I do wish that the authors did group them by level of difficulty. Some days you want easy cryptograms, and other days you want to be challenged! The picture on the cover of the book does not reflect what the cryptograms in the book look like. In fact, this book doesn't have much of a format at all, which I did find disappointing. What you get instead is the line of the cryptogram, a blank line, and the next cryptogram. So several cryptograms fit on a page. I would prefer a book like this to be complete in itself, with some workspace or perhaps a grid for the letters as you figure out what the letters of that particular cryptogram would be. To just have essentially line after line of cryptograms is not as useful as it could be. The book did have a fairly well-written introduction that went over how to break down cryptograms. I just found the layout of the book to be poor.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
I love cryptograms but I had always done them in Spanish. This is the first time I do them in English. It’s fun but difficult and is a challenge for me. A good way to test my English and at the same time to remember and learn more.
