Simple juxtaposition of some of Charles Russell's Western paintings with the sharp color photographs of Montana life and landscape by Sam Abel. Quite a beautifully written introduction by Ginger Renner. Sections and paintings are also set off by quotes from Russell himself, mostly from personal letters that reveal his love of the country and its people in romanticized language with inventive spelling. I there's a weakness, it's the imbalance - I could have used a bit more Russell.
