Medillia’s Lament is a sad yet beautiful tale of loss, despair, and regret. Eventually, the setting shifts from Chicago to a small island in Maine, and it is there, with a little help of some magical realism, the story becomes one of hope and second chances. And ultimately, it becomes a story about believing that maybe, just maybe, things really do happen for a reason.
Medillia’s Lament is the story of grief, of tragic loss, and of the power of those who love to reach from the beyond to save those who cannot save themselves. The main character, John, and his brother, are inseparable opposites. The story is built in I duality, with each set of characters, couplings, and events helping to create a swirling current of time and dimension. The settings, a family owned pub in Chicago, where the main character is drunkenly adrift, and the sea coast of Maine, where the storms give from their powerful magic, work together to give the reader a sense of John being carried along by the external forces working to save him. The living and the spiritual characters are unaware partners, each playing a part in John’s journey towards realizing that love, family, and fate are a continuous presence, to be accepted. I can’t wait to hear my book club talk about this story.

This book will remain in my heart and soul forever. You made this story come alive and know that all things under the stars can happen, if you believe. I was a fan of your writing before this book, and this one seals it for me. Thank you for taking this leap. You nailed it! I'm passing it on to my daughter tomorrow. Can't wait to talk about it with her.
I finished reading this book a week ago, and its characters and magic linger with me. Jody Clark crafted a wonderful story with marvelous characters, and a bit of Maine magic. I honestly didn't want the story to end.
Medillia's Lament is easily one of my top three favorite books, and one I will re-read regularly. In the meantime, I'm off to read another book of Jody Clark's.
From the very first page I could not put this book down! I loved the development of characters and how people's lives were intertwind. The story was so sad I actually cried for the protagonist. But how wonderful and magical redemption can be! Beautifully written! Next book, Medillia's Lament 2, coming up!
Just finished Jody's 6th book, Medillia's Lament. If you liked his other books, I think you will love this. It was hard to put down, captivating the imagination and hopes. Maine IS magic!
I really enjoyed this story and at times had a hard time putting it down. I really wish there was an island off the coast of Maine called Applewood. A fun, summer read!
I bought the e-book and was unable to get through the first chapter due to the formatting and editing mistakes. Hopefully those are fixed as the story sounds like one I would enjoy.
