How do you "make sense" of the second half of your life? Developed from more than five years of travel, interviews, research and personal experiences, this book is a practical roadmap for redefining one's purpose. The authors interviewed women and men from the ages of fifty to seventy-five years, in part, not only because that is the age group where they find themselves, but also the interviews helped them make sense of the second half of life. * Find encouragement through relatable research* Reinvent yourself with honest, trusted guidance* Become empowered by preparing for your journey
I picked up this book after seeing it in a local shop window with a sign stating it was by local writers. Since I'm relatively new to the town and recently retired, I thought it would be a nice way to support locals - plus I did need a little break from my reading trend.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read - I took longer only because I wanted to stop and think about some of the ideas and suggestions. It was light, it was positive, it made sense.
Now I need one of my friends in the same stage of life to read it so we can chat about it. :)
I found this book informative, practical and full of good advice. I will refer back to it often as I make my way through the aging process. It was easy to read and organized well.
This book is inspiring for the baby boomer generation desiring to engage in "successful aging". The authors endeavor to help the reader discover what is next after retirement. The parts that particularly resonated with me were the prompters in Chapter One to help search for an ideal home and community to age in place. I also appreciated the chapter towards the end of the book that dealt with looking at our mortality. I am a fan of getting affairs in order, discussing and getting clarity on end-of-life issues and wishes as well as releasing to the best of our abilities our fear of death and dying. Other topics covered were connection and spirituality, self-care, diet, exercise, healthy lifestyle choices, sleep and stress mitigation. The book is thoughtfully and positively presented. I will recommend it to my baby boomer friends!
This book combines personal stories, insight and questions to ask ourselves as we look towards, or are trying to figure how to find purpose in the second half of our lives. The book is broken down into purposeful categories of aspects of life we will need to make sense of, in which sound advice is provided as well as self-inquiry to help in our own personal jouncy into the aging process
