Rate this book
Ten years have passed since Daniel and Tarquin met for the first time, and the love they have for each other has grown stronger with each day. As busy as they are with raising their children, building their careers and spend quality time in each other's company, the two are unaware of the enemies hidden in the shadows.

Brennan MacIntyre is a man with a troubled past and a cold heart, unable to love someone and unworthy of affection and attention. He only lives for his next assignment, smoothing his boss's way to absolute power by eliminating his enemies. That is until a chance encounter makes him questions his choices and beliefs.

Will Daniel and Tarquin's love survive the events that could dramatically change their lives? Will Brennan abandon his old ways and step into the light, or will he choose to stay in the darkness? What will happen when these three men cross paths?

Author H.M. Wolfe and her writing partner E.L. Nelson have come out with a new book, The Darkest Hour Before Dawn, The Men of Dragons’ House Book 3. This book centers on Daniel and Tarquin and picks up in their tenth year together. I am a little biased because Daniel and Tarquin are one of my favorite couples. When I found out that the new book in The Men of Dragons’ House would center on them, I could not wait to read it. The men are just as in love with each other as they were when they first met and the love they have for their families is stronger than ever. But ten years have passed and while some enemies are gone new ones pop up that could tear the life the two men built apart. The children have also grown and with them come adult issues. I will say there were a couple of moments that had me thinking “Oh No" and worried how things would play out for the various children.

There is a lot going on, as usual, in these books and I loved the many twists and turns, all of which had me turning the pages. I found myself staying up until the early morning hours reading just to see what was going to happen and how the author would wrap up the story lines. There were some surprises that I am sure will shock readers and I am curious if the fall out will play a part in any future stories.

I have been reading this series since the very first book came out. The author’s improvement in writing and storytelling is evident in each new story and that shows in The Darkest Hour Before Dawn. I can’t wait to see what is plan next and hope a new book will be out soon.

This book was given to me as an ARC, all opinions are my own.

Since this is the third of a series, I obviously assumed more characters from the previous book would be present, since all characters throughout the authors book are connected with some family bond.

There was a brief mention of the ones we had met but more appeared from book one. Which is important to note because just the amount of different people to keep track on was giving me whiplash and also to keep track on how they are all related.

While I initially liked Brennan, he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders, he wasn't much of an assassin in the end. Not doing anything to keep his identity hidden and wasn't the best at hiding either. I'm assuming we are meeting him in a later book as there was some loose threads regarding him and what I thought would be a love interest.

Daniel and Tarquin is very sweet together, overly so, there isn't really a threat towards their relationship as they never seemed to waver at all. With their endlessly growing family there is nothing but love and acceptance.

Personally I had little against our villain but that is most likely because I'm more drawn to darker books than this.

This can not be read as a stand alone, it will be near impossible to keep track of it all if you try.

This story shows us Brennan’s past and how he joins the family, introduce us to Joeren and how he's reunited with his father and family, a new enemy that rises from the family causing betrayal and heartbreak with his schemes and brilliant mind, how said enemy pays for his sins, and how our beloved characters remain united and stronger than ever.
It's amazing how many can succumb to power and greed and at what heights is capable to attend to achieve said power. When the one you admire becomes your greatest enemy is a hard pill to swallow especially when he has a brilliant mind and is hard to beat.
Trying to turn brother against brother, to hurt your own blood, and to manipulate innocent souls in creating rifts and disillusion are a couple of the things this enemy does.
Is a masterfully executed spider web that is manipulated from the shadows, but in the end the truth surfaces and it shocked a lot of people.
I really loved the additions to the family and how against the odds our characters find moments of happiness, new couples are formed, new friendships are made, and the family grows bigger.
An extraordinary read with twists and turns you won't expect, mystery, a little magic, betrayal, forgiveness, secrets, and lots of love, acceptance and happiness.

I had so much fun reading this book! It is the third in a series so best to start with the first one if you want all the characters to make sense and understand some of the relationships. The characters in this book are part of why I keep reading these books besides the amazing plot and awesome writing I just adore the different characters. They make the books come alive and keep me turning the pages. This one had me on the edge of my seat for most of the time with trying to figure out what was happening with the mystery. There was also a lot of angst and some really amazing moments with the characters. I can't wait for more books in this series and to see what will happen next! definitely a must read!

This book is very intriguing, angsty, villainous, adventurous, with mystery surrounding the characters and let's not forget those coupling scenes.
I was astonished by the number of characters and their relation to each other, getting my head around their journeys and stories was kind of overwhelming. I literally had to write their names down on paper and relation to to the MCs.... that was interesting....imaging what went on in the lab... WOW.
The authors did a fabulous job, putting these characters together, and in their right place for this book to flow well was in of itself amazing.....

Great read, you will not be disappointed.

These authors have one basic strength that makes all books brilliant - characters! There is a host of amazing personalities in all of them, including this newest gem. Plus, there is angst, a great plotline and all the feels that will hold you captive until the very last page. Just so good!
