Destitute cowboys, casino-rich Natives, a manic politician, and a morally sound sheriff collide in this modern-day Cowboys vs. Indians.
FROM THE BLURB: The beef business ain’t what it used to be, but Kenny “Black Elk” Shepard’s casino is bustling—so much that he’s buying all the ranches in Spearfish and turning them into official tribal land. But the Flying-C cattle ranch ain’t selling, and word has it, them boys’ll go down swinging. So with the help of an insider—a Custer and power-hungry politician—Kenny Shepard plans a hostile takeover: kill off the stock, make it look like an act of God. But when the plan goes awry resulting in casualties on both sides, it’ll be all out war for this small piece of land. As the lines between good and evil become blurred, the only moral compass in the town is Sheriff Weston Harris and his cantankerous, post-menopausal deputy in this modern-day Cowboys versus Indians.
A modern day dip into the wild wild west, unfiltered and unapologetic. What a ride! As fast-paced and full of action that it is, this book's got a heart. I WOULDN'T recommend it for everyone, but I'm recommending it to those who enjoy the dark and gritty side of human nature.
If you like dirty language, sex, cold blooded murder, racism... then I guess you’d like it. And the story plot was weird, the ending just leaves you ......... huh. Idk. Not worth the time to read imho.
I bought SACRED LAND a few years ago based on the recommendation of a social media influencer who said it was very similar to the tv show- ‘Yellowstone’ (which I enjoy).
I’d agree with that statement based on premise, plot, and characters. Where I strongly disagree is the actual execution of this story (it falls VERY short of what Taylor Sheridan created with Yellowstone). There was no character development to be found, and the ending left me feeling as though no justice for any party took place. Too many characters and storylines (the abused wife) had no purpose and should have been edited out to improve the book.
Probably the worst book I’ve ever picked up to be honest. The story is pretty typical, at the same time it’s not interesting. None of the characters are likable and the way this author describes women is hilarious. If you are compelled to say I woman has a “can”, stop writing. I took it on a camping trip and opted for just lying there in the dark with nothing to do since I didn’t want to finish it. Happy it was just $8 on Amazon.
