Walt Perry: An Early-Day Forest Ranger in New Mexico and Oregon

Rate this book
Walt An Early-Day Forest Ranger in New Mexico and Oregon" is the fascinating true-life story of a self-made man. After working at many jobs -- most notably mining and logging in Mexico -- Walt Perry found his "real life's work" in the U.S. Forest Service. He served on national forests in New Mexico and Oregon from 1910 to 1936 as a forest ranger and timber manager. A graduate of the "school of hard knocks," he rose through the ranks to become a senior member of the Society of American Foresters and a respected member of the forestry profession. Along the way he served with many of the Forest Service's best. He also made major contributions to North American anthropology and was an accomplished naturalist, writer, and poet.

A wonderful read about a truly interesting job and the man that did it as best he could. A hard to find book from Wilderness Associates in Bend, Oregon. If you see this one, grab it.
