The final task is coming and Alyx is doing everything in her power in order to make it through. The loss of the largest piece of her heart has been crippling, but they still have a quest to finish and a whole realm to save.
With the help of her brother, Quinn, she and her guards gear up for the daunting final leg of this race, which will culminate, hopefully, with the prize. But Alyx and the guard are hurting.
And she still hasn’t manifested a Hand of Power.
With enemies closing in, and with everything they have already done and sacrificed hanging in the balance, will what they have collectively endured be enough to win the day, and thwart those that wish to enslave Faerie?
This final book in The Arcane Court closes a chapter for not only Alyx and her Court, but also the other characters we have met through this whole sets of series. Alyx's journey all over the world during previous three books has resulted in her final chapter, searching for the lost Island of Hybrasil, the fountainhead of the power of all Faerie.
The loss of Scur during the previous quest has had a massive impact on The Arcane Court and with Scur's family. Alyx is trying to function properly and taking Khalid down with her. She seeks comfort from the rest of her Court and gradually climbs out of her pit of despair, knowing she has this final quest coming soon.
Throughout this book Alyx grows closer to Hutch and they start to build a proper relationship. Her relationships deepen with her other guards too. As a bonus we get to witness the idiocy of Scur's brothers when his mother comes to mourn his loss with his Princess. They are good for some light relief in the midst of the grief.
These books are always good for adding levity when things get dark. They are actually very positive books, filled with joking banter and bouncing energy. The friendships are important and the banter between all the Princesses, The Queen and their guards is always lighthearted, but supportive. This as in all of the other books in the series is fun to read.
My only quibble with great ending to a great series, is there are a lot of typos in the book. Things like 'know' instead of 'now' and missing words from sentences. It's a minor issue, and it doesn't affect the quality of the story or my enjoyment, I just found it a little distracting and I know some people would hate it with the passion of a thousand fiery suns, so I like to add a warning, if that's you.
Despite my mental deduction of half a ⭐, I have no other complaints about this book. It was a tremenously enjoyable read and rounded off a lot of things for me, and I enjoyed visiting with the other Courts. I can't wait to read about The Ash Court and Senara Chaos in the next book, because the last few chapters of this book introduce her really well for the next series.
This last book in The Arcane Court series is the best imho. Alyx has a "Lara Croft" vibe in her that just never stops. She's going after the final challenge to heal Faerie even though her heart is broken, wounded and aching. With her brother Quinn, and her guard by her side she's going to tough it out and get it done. The entire Court series all have twists and turns and this one doesn't disappoint. From the first chapter my heart felt Alyx' grief over her loss of her love and her guilt of feeling like she was the cause of it. New things are happening, and it's happening fast. This was a spectacular ending to this Court book.
Another wild ride. I knew the hurt would be rewarded because what are these stories but a reward for patience and faith in faerie? The relationships built and explored warm my heart. The world building in these stories always leaves me longing to walk through faerie and explore. The descriptions of food and drinks in the books makes me want to try the recipes at home or find a distillery to make the drinks I now crave. Another masterful story enriched with both pain and pleasure.
I immediately fell back into the world and never want to leave. My heart was yanked out of my chest with what these characters went through. I cried, laughed and was on the edge of my seat with everything that went down. I absolutely cannot wait to see where the Ash Court books will be going. Brava Ladies for another fantastic series!!!!
This series was freaking awesome! I love the authors and I am so glad I tried this unique and different version of faerie as well as mythology. The search for hordes of treasure, be it jewels or a library of history, was different and made this series as a whole click with the blending of faerie into the real world.
