Simon is journeying through Botswana, in southern Africa, through the wetlands of the Okavango Delta towards the open savannah and semi-desert of Namibia. The whole area is a biodiversity hotspot. Simon is documenting his journey, and there's one animal that he particularly wants to see more than any a black rhino.

This series, taken from Simon's real-life diaries, is written in a narrative non-fiction style and illustrated by Simon's own field sketches and expedition photos. It's a great way to introduce readers aged 8+ to biomes and ecosystems.

About the author

Simon has been entertaining adults and children with stories of his real-life adventures since 2001. He has recently returned from trekking around high snow peaks in Sichuan, China- where he was searching for the locations that inspired the novel, ‘Lost Horizon’ with its fabled hidden valley of ‘Shangri La’.

Quite interesting. My son wasn't that interested (8). However 4 stars for the fantastic illustrations and photos
