In Wait for Blood

Rate this book
Bound by will. Driven by courage. Bent on vengeance.

Emily may have broken the witch's spell, but the demon she unwittingly loosed prowls Sand Dollar, a specter of death looming over the paranormally sensitive. Foremost in the devil's crosshairs is Lillie Mars.

As the demon draws them all deeper into its deadly snare, Emily has to choose between her illicit feelings for Tad and protecting her sister. But why is Lillie so special? And is Emily powerful enough to battle the rift demon that's hellbent on possessing and killing everyone marked by its curse?

When the time comes, Emily must face the demon alone. And to save them all from elemental carnage, she must coax forth her dormant darkness, unlocking a past she doesn't remember and threatening every truth she's ever believed.

IN WAIT FOR BLOOD is the Season 2 premiere of Rangers of the Rift, the dark and thrilling contemporary fantasy series written for readers who love Netflix-style storytelling. Episode 5 is a fantasy thriller with a heap of magic, a double-helping of horror, and a scoop of romance.

A Wild Ride!

Some sweet moments here. I enjoyed the insight into Tad and his family life – the good the bad and the heartbreaking. But Emily Mars is a magnet for danger and things get off the rails fast, guess that’s the life of a ranger.

Minor Spoilers

Emily catches the scent of her mysterious demon as he starts to make his presence felt around Sand Dollar. She doggedly follows, hot on his trail! What’s he up to? There’s little time for answers with lives hanging in the balance …

These books just continue to steal my heart!

I don't think any of these books from here on out will ever receive less than 5 stars from me. They just give me everything I want and more. Thank you River K. Scott for writing such a fabulous world that I will never not want to dive into.

I went into this book ready to dive into the 2nd season after such a thrilling ending to the last. And it did not disappoint. We pick up not long after the previous book left off and I was so happy to see that. Sometimes a big time jump can be very jarring.

Also, we got to see lots more character backstory in this one. We got to learn more about Tad and his brother - their past, their current relationship. This was something I had been wondering about for a couple of books and I was finally glad we got to see more of it. We also got to see more of the little boy from the end of the last book. I had secretly hoped that would happen too because he seemed like he could be very important to Emily's story moving forward.

A big selling point of these books for me (aside from the whole guiding the dead to the afterlife premise - which I adore!) is the family aspect. I love that Emily's family is ever present in her life and that you really get to see them. They might not know everything about her, but there's so many stories where there's just no family involved in the young adult protagonist's life. That is not the case here.

I love how you, as the reader, get so absorbed in the details of this world that you never see the twists coming. It is just the absolute best feeling about this book and all the others. The author is just so descriptive that you feel like you've fallen into Emily's world.

And how can I not mention the tension between Emily and Tad? It's ever-building throughout these books and I LIVE for it! I can't wait to see where the next book takes us.

Easily 5 stars from me. And if you enjoy stories like The Archived by V.E. Schwab and Supernatural, these are the books for you. I will never stop recommending them!

So if you think season 1 got you hooked, wait until you read episode 5. My gosh!
This book is fast paced and keeps your mind turning the whole time. New characters, new spells, new demons! Just when you think you know what Emily is in for everything changes.
This book does end with a cliff hanger, but let’s face it, we are already hooked anyways!
The author does an amazing job of bringing you back into Emily’s life. If you thought Emily was strong and powerful in season 1, just wait until you see what she can do now.
I love that we are watching Emily’s character grow, yes she already had her gift when the book started but I love being right here and watching it grow with her.
I can’t wait to see what the rest of season 2 brings for everyone, Emily, Lillie, Tad, and all the other new characters we meet in episode 5.

Season 1 went out with a bang. While season 2 started out explosive! These seasons are so addictive. It's like watching a series on tv.
Emily has grown through this series. She has more questions than ever about her past. She knows how she feels about Tad but not so sure about the Ranger/Sight relationship.
Evil is lurking in the shadows putting Lillie and Wolf in danger.
Tad does the unthinkable in the strip club. Actually I loved the entire scene. Crazy people.
Can't wait for the next addictive installment, Forged in Shadows season 2 book #6!
Thank you Booksprout and the author for a fabulous complimentary copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Loved this! This series (& book) is full of emotion, suspense and action. Each book is better than the one before (though they’re all great reads) and so much happens! You learn new things in each book about the world they live and work in, and about the characters themselves.

In this one, the limen is still a mess, the witch who took Tad’s eye is still out there, a demon is marking and summoning people at will and Emily struggles with controlling her own darkness within her.

We get to read some chapters from Lillie in this one and I feel sorry for the poor girl! She’s got so much more going on, than even Emily realises.

I really enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to read book 6!

Emily are Tad are back for the season 2 premier and they’re still neck deep in trouble.

The series is fast becoming a new guilty pleasure and the author writes which such passion and conviction that you can’t help but get totally drawn in to the story.

10/10 I hope this series goes on and on!
