The Southern states of post apocalyptic America continue to challenge a family torn by the plagues of the infected and the malice of the evil leaders of the Brotherhood. The family continues to grow larger with each new addition adding onto their survival skill set. They all worry that in this new normal the largest groups are the ones the Zombies come for first.
On the other side of the ethical line Krantz finds himself rapidly rising through the ranks of the Brotherhood. Faced with choosing between the lesser of two evils so often that he starts having issues discerning when something is actually good or just less evil. How far do you go to survive and thrive in a world gone mad?
Living in a lighthouse as a child led me early to a love of reading. Despite what you may have been told the life of a lighthouse keeper's son is not all Glamour and Parties. There's a lot of time when there really isn't much to do besides wonder if the fog horn has finally made you deaf or watch your dad pull fishing lures out of different parts of people's bodies. (You'd be amazed!)
Two of my favorite houses growing up!
I read. I read a lot. We had a 'reading caterpillar' around the room at my school where every time you read a book you put your name on your color paper and hung it up. The teacher had to give me two colors because it was looking more like a worm than a caterpillar. I devoured CS Lewis before moving on to Tolkien. Reading has continued to be a big part of my life. I've moved into Alternative Realities by guys like Stirling and my guilty pleasure is Zombie novels. I can't seem to get enough of them!
I like reading about the extremes people will go to to survive. The ones who can rise above the rest and keep their sense of right and wrong. When humanity crumbles around them these flawed heroes stand tall and try to make their way. They go from struggling to pay the phone bill to struggling to keep themselves and others alive. I like to see how this either hardens or breaks them. I think these stories speak at a very primal level. I enjoy the journey greatly as I get to tag along seeing how the survivors manage and how the experience forges them into something more than they were.
I look forward to sharing the journey with you all!
I wrapped this book up as a Pandemic swept across the globe. As I stayed home watching news reports with my family I couldn't help but think of the similarities between the real world and fiction. People think it's so fantastical that a plague like the Zombie virus would be able to spread in modern times. Based on what I've seen of the worlds reaction to this corona virus I'm kind of surprised we're not already walking around trying to eat each others brains... (I mean no disrespect to the nurses and doctors and others on the front lines risking their lives everyday to help others. A huge thank you to those heroic individuals!)
This book continues the story of Kyler and Kelly and crew. We also find ourselves learning a lot more about Krantz and the journey he's on. No spoilers but let's just say it's going to be a rough ride for him. Not that there's ever an easy day for anybody in the apocalypse. The action picks up and the conflict between the north and the south grows ever more heated.
I am loving the twists and turns and already working feverishly on the next book in the series. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens!
Thank you so much to everyone who's read what I've written. I love the open and honest feedback I've received. I'm humbled by the comments telling me how much people have enjoyed the stories. I've learned so much from those who've taken the time to point out the flaws. Keep them both coming!
Thank you all for walking this path with me. It wouldn't be the same without you!
This series has plenty of zombies, interesting and relatable characters, and the powe hungry group of humans lead by a Senator who wants power and control. Love the Kyler character and hum saving Randy's family. My only problem is it would seem like Randy and Kelly would get their girls under control a bit better before it costs one of them their lives. All the dumb decisions center around one of their daughters doing something that puts the entire family in danger. Young or not this is a life and death situation. The kids in the book fall back to easily into old habits and it is a bit frustrating as a reader to keep hearing from their parents that they are just kids. I think time for a long talk with the kids before they cause the death of someone they love. Other than that I enjoy the book and the action and hope the next book spends more time on Kyler and less on Randy's family unless they get their act together.
I thought this was suppose to be the last book in the series. After reading it book 6 has a cliff hanger so is there another book coming out? I would like to know what happens to all the characters in the story.
Well, well, well, the family is separated again for some zebra cakes?? I love zebra cakes, but I'm deathly afraid of zombies, so my fear factor will override my sweet tooth! Parents can't rest on their laurels and let their young ones to out "exploring" alone because, there are demented people out there, and will take advantage of children.
My question is which side will win the battle, the North of the South?? I think the zombies are going to win, and humanity loses. Absolute power = destruction.
Scarey, moving, good character development, you will be hooked immediately. Hard to put down.very realistic especially with everything that is going on today.
Another good one...this series has you enthralled and rooting for the family unity. There is danger, humor and love in the stories that keep you wanting to finish but not wanting it to end.
I usually write.a review after I have read ask.the books in the set. Honestly thought there only 6 books but when U got to the end I knew there was more. Anyway, I have to say thus series is amazing. Just the detailed of he characters kept me reading. Thanks for all so far. I have to go and read Book 7!!!!
I love the fast paced writing of this series, and that its about a family staying together, or better yet, getting back together, and a young man who just wants to do what's right.
I really enjoyed this series. So much action, scary situations and perseverance . I binge read them all and am a little afraid that that book 7 will be the last one for awhile . What an imagination this writer has!!!
This tale just keeps rolling along. The irony of a reprised Civil War is very interesting as is the continued inhumanity of the remaining uninfected to their fellow humans. A lot to think about and digest. Great story though.
Kelley and Randy feel like they can relax. They in a big wear house, food, and comfortable cots. But, nowhere is safe. They dropped their guard and lost 2 of their girls. Now, what to do?
I just finished 6 Zombies! Books in about 2 weeks….stayed up late reading…still went to work and simply ignored household chores as much as possible….if you are looking for a great series that has heros, villains zombies galore, exciting twist and turns you’ve come to the right book and author! Got to go start the final Zombies! 7th book! Are there more coming I sure hope so!
Indeed this novel and entire series is very exciting. Every time Kelly and Randy catch a breath, all hell breaks loose. All they want is to keep their family together, safe and fed. Kyler has finally made it back north to reunite with the people who sent him south to spy. The north is finally striking back at the Senator and his gang of immoral thugs.
Great installment to an already great series. As is the norm in a zombie apocalypse, just when you think your safe zombies are right around the corner. This book had just the right balance of action and character development that I have grown to love in this series.
The author mixes stuff up a bit, especially the ages of the kids. Caitlyn was relatively little at first and now she's eighteen, but Doreen is still a toddler? And baklava is a dessert pastry, not headwear.
Just as expected the pace was fast and furious so definitely recommend if you have read all the previous books I can't wait to see how the characters I've been rooting for end up and I hope the bad guys get what they deserve
