What If Who You Are Is Who You Were Meant To Be? As moms, we’re always someone’s someone, giving, loving, and nurturing. Stripped from all the labels, who are we, just being a girl in this world? Self-doubt reminds us that we aren’t enough, that someone else could do a better job raising our kids, or that we should be further along in life. Somewhere along the way, we feel stuck, lose our identity and purpose, comparing ourselves to others, as a measuring stick to success. We hustle for our worth, in the form of an over achiever, a fixer, an entertainer, a perfectionist or people pleaser, allowing fear to clip our wings, to make us feel small. Overwhelmed, exhausted and behind the eight ball at every turn, we live life to the busy instead of to the full. It's time to take our power back, to walk in our true identity, minus the expectations of others. It's time to walk in our passion and purpose, to find our tribe and write our story. This book examines twelve struggles we deal with and the steps needed to create breathing room, establish boundaries and live the life we've always dreamed. Here's to Living Your Best Life. I haven't finished it yet and had to return it to the library... but I just requested it again as I found so many valuable nuggets already plus I liked her tone and style. I had little post its on many pages so I think I'll re-read from the start. And I live in Scottsdale too - so now I want to find the author and have coffee with her. :)
I have read and re-read Stephanie Pletka's book, Living Your Best Life, three times. Each time, I find great nuggets that make me feel so good about myself. I now don't feel alone in my journey as a mom, a friend, and simply as a woman. I can get so down on my self and truly do believe the lies that I tell myself, but it feels as if Stephanie holds our hands and walks through those deceptive feelings to a brighter outlook in her book. After each chapter, she offers questions for reflection and prayer for peace. One of my favorite lines-"Ladies, when you have a passion, walk towards it. When you have a dream burning in your soul, make room for it. It's not about you." YES!!! Thank you Stephanie for your thoughful and encouraging words! I was gifted this book, but it would be in the range of what I like. Non-fiction self help book? Heck yeah!
My only issue was this book was not advertised correctly. If you like self-help, great! Me too!
This book is self-help specifically for religious moms, which I am neither of those things. I felt some lessons were great, but too many relied on the power knowing GOD is in control, not you, so know things will get better or work themselves out.
How about YOU work them out YOURSELF. I am not the woman I am today because of some man in the sky. I don't even believe in the whole "Earth is a simulation" conspiracy either. We exist. We live. We die. If you need religion, I'm fine with that. I don't really care. But to make it your whole personality? To not advertise this book in the religious section? I'm pretty mad about it.
I wish this book would have advertised itself for religious mothers. Then, I probably would not have been gifted this book (I literally asked for no religious or business books). It was short, sweet, but felt empty. That being a mother gave her wisdom and that being religious gave her the right to spread that wisdom.
Some of her worst hardships included that she had a big butt (which she mentions multiple times). I was actually pretty upset by the fact that she didn't mention anything awful to show that we aren't alone in our experiences. Not that I want a trauma dump to make her a self-help expert, but I felt her problems were very surface level and that publishing a book to try and spread a message wasn't needed.
