The thrilling sequel to The Other, L.I.N. an acronym for Living Intelligent Network, the Ai computer system aboard the alien craft discovered in Book 1, follows 19-year-old Kaetlyn O'Sullivan's harrowing adventure as she wakes up from a coma after having been shot in the head by a fanatic. During her comatose state, she penetrates deeper into her past life and discovers she was actually on the alien craft that crashed into the coast of Southern Ireland, not far from the small town where she later grew up, and what her purpose was for coming to Earth at the time. With global powers now going head-to-head to leverage control over Kaetlyn and the craft, the real issue mounts as global warming suddenly unleashes climatic disaster, and the craft, its Ai computer - L.I.N. and Kaetlyn are the only answer to reversing a global meltdown that threatens humanity. A brutally vivid rendering about the future facing us if we do not act now - and a story about one young woman's determination to stop it from happening despite everything, and everyone with other agendas.
"The sequel to The Other, L.I.N. (acronym for Live-Intelligent-Network) is as grabbing and highly suspenseful as its predecessor in the series. The engaging narrative and non-stop action held my interest from start to finish. The plot revolves around an intriguing subject: people must find a solution to how to save their home, the planet Earth. But are they ready to sacrifice their every-day life’s comfort and criminal carelessness to achieve it? It’s evident the author has in-depth knowledge of the subject and how dear to his heart it is. Laplaine is doing great work by presenting non-fiction in the literary form of fiction, which significantly broadens the scope of his readership. The ending will leave you in awe. I didn’t see it coming. L.I.N. is also a story that evokes hope, so needed in this challenging time of total confusion and treacherous uncertainty. In the words of a character: “… because here on Earth, right and wrong are a matter of viewpoint, depending on who it serves.” And on the resilience of the human spirit, I would add. Listen to the author’s appeal, an important and timely warning. I would highly recommend this book to the young and adults." Marina Osipova, author of How Dare the Birds Sing
"This novel reads more like actuality than fiction. It tackles an issue so very real to the present day, with both the humanity's concern and disregard for our well-being. I was enthralled reading the prequel and bit my nails until this follow-up was released." A. Mogan, author of The Secret Journals of Adolf Hitler
"The truth is the only thing that nobody will believe." - George Bernard Shaw
"Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear." - George Orwell, author of 1984
I write high-concept thrillers, literary fiction, action-packed thrill rides, weaved around issues affecting our world today, which pull back the curtain to expose deeper truths behind the facade of mediocrity, the lies and stories we are fed to keep us from seeing the real picture. As far as literary fiction goes, I like to delve into what makes my characters tick, giving the reader a closer sense of identity with them and what motivates them, what their inner demons or the voice of their soul is saying. I am a true believer that we are, individually and collectively speaking, capable of producing a great culture where war, racism, inequality and the insane imbalance of wealth and resources in the world are largely things of the past, and where the collective and individual social consciousness is raised to a level where society focuses on equality, potential, creativity, tolerance and love - the true elements of advance. There are billions of galaxies out there beyond our tiny planet, waiting to be explored, and in them, other races to be met – and to reach them, the road ahead must be paved with the stones of a higher culture, a greater humanity, something we are capable of achieving if we push the edges of the box we find ourselves living in and reach for those stars.
Born in French-Canada, and later growing up in Ontario, Canada, Réal Laplaine's sense of adventure sent him on many bicycling trips at a young age. At sixteen he was flying single engine planes and by eighteen, he and his best friend hitchhiked across Canada into some of the remotest parts of the nation, to the Yukon and Alaska, a trip that profoundly changed him. After reading Jonathan Livingston Seagull, by Richard Bach, he set himself on a journey to find deeper meaning in life, a journey, after a long career in marketing, recruiting and sales, landed him where he truly wanted to be - a writer. Since his first book, The Buffalo Kid, he has published fourteen other books and sees no end to that road - at least until the road comes to an end. - George Orwell, author of 1984

L.I.N is categorized as being science fiction....a genre I don't normally read unless the book is written by Real Laplaine! It's a book so breathtakingly real it's mind-blowing! Talk about publication timing! Yes this is a stand-alone novel but I would strongly suggest reading THE OTHER first, if only to get a broader picture overall. Speaking of which, Real is an artiste with words, my wish is to be able to meld into his brain for just one day as he writes … Others have given the storyline so instead of being repetitive I will say this. With L.IN. ( an artificial intelligence holograph ), LaPlaine has woven together intricately intertwined storylines to create one remarkable book. Take a deep breath and plunge into an eye-opening read!
L.I.N. by Real Laplaine third in the Out Step series 5 stars This story picks up where The Other left off. Kaetlyn O'Sullivan comes out of a coma to find out that two alien spaceships are hovering off the coast of Ireland. Kaetlyn experiences memories of her time aboard the spaceship and her knowledge of L.I.N., the ship's AI computer who is almost human. The mission of the spaceships purpose comes to light. The aliens want to help earth before it is too late to help the environment. the story brings to light current problems and one that no one could have predicted the the earth is experiencing now. Totally fiction but with real, current happenings. Amazing read.
