I received an advance reader copy of this book and I always review every book that I read. This is the second book in the series and it will make you want to read the next book. I recommend this book and this series. It is very entertaining and different.
I had read Blind Sight (Book One in Tanya R. Taylor’s Lucille Pfiffer Series) and enjoyed it immensely, so naturally I was really looking forward to Book Two. And I was NOT disappointed! Blind Escape has one mystery after another! It starts out with a simple boat excursion and we discover Lucille has a romantic heart as well as a caring one.
Then before she, her best friend Merlene and Theodore, one of her tenants, can get back to the mainland, Lucille experiences loss again. Not like with her soul mate, her late husband Donnie. There will never be anyone like Donnie for Lucille. But we see she may be capable of love a second time around.
No sooner than she returns home and is kissed all over by her feisty little dog Nilla, she also experiences another visit from a ghostly intruder that is demanding her help. She does want to help him and undertakes some research, which may not only assist the ghost but could also aid in her own personal challenge. By the way, I should also mention that the reader easily becomes endeared to her two tenants Anthony and Theodore. They love Lucille and would do anything for her. And Nilla will also make you laugh and cry at the same time! The author’s love for her own little Nilla and animals in general authentically shines through.
Moving along at a fast pace, Lucille is then thrown into the most unimaginable circumstances from which she has to extract herself. For a minute she briefly touches the heart of a career criminal and we wonder if this will save her. At the same time, she feels she has been let down by someone she never thought would stoop so low.
I won’t reveal any more. You have to read Blind Escape yourself! I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did!
BLIND ESCAPE (Lucille Pfiffer Mystery Series Book 2) - a review by Rosemary Kenny
One thing's for sure, Lucille Pfeiffer's life is not dull in any way, shape or form - despite the fact she's a blind, pensioner she's far from helpless as she has good friends, stalwart young 'sons'/lodgers, a feisty Shih-tzu, (Va)nilla - oh and by the way she's psychic and has a ghostly gentleman to advise and intervene for her in the spirit world, all of which keeps her fully occupied.
Even a supposedly relaxing free boat trip with friends leads to tragedy and a murder-mystery to solve. In that respect Lucille's like Jessica Fletcher or Miss Marple, as she seems to attract killers/victims wherever she goes! Added to that is a pledge she made, to solve another mystery for Sir Clement, so the unwelcome visitors who interrupt Lucille's research for the latter get the sharp edge of her tongue. Who else does Lucille blame for what happens next? What help does Sir Clement give Lucille? What is the vital clue that solves a murder? Where does Lucille go at the end of Blind Escape? Book 2 in Tanya R Taylor's incredible Lucille Pfeiffer Mystery series, is Blind Escape, Tanya R Taylor's latest guaranteed best-seller that's not to be missed, as with all her other great books. Get your copy today - and don't forget to bring along a doggy treat for 'Nilla too!
I enjoyed the first book and had to find out, what else Lucille was getting up to. Lucille is invited to a trip on a yacht, to Hogan Key Resort with Merlene, Theodore and his co workers. Lucille couldn’t help but wonder how they’d managed to convince her to go. There were lots of couples and those who weren’t, seemed to be pairing up nicely. The CEO of Edwards Pharmaceuticals (one of the wealthiest men in Chadsworth) takes a shine to Lucille. A few accidents later Lucille is glad to be home and Nilla (her dog) is even more glad to see her!
Something happens when Lucille is home which explains a few things and she winds up kidnapped! Lucille’s minds eye helps her more than ever before, even if it did let her down once or twice. Merlene’s friendship comes into question and Nilla (shih tzu ) shows that size really doesn’t matter when it counts.
Will Sir Clements murder be resolved? Or will it have to wait until another day? I can’t wait, there’s going to be a third book, right??
The Lucille Pfiffer mystery series is still as quirky as the first,
I enjoyed reading this narrative. The author does not disappoint when it comes to writing a page-turning, plot-driven story. If you read Book 1, it is a year later at Chadsworth, and you will be acquainted with protagonist Lucille Pfiffer, who does not bite her tongue when it comes to her opinions, along with some of her charming, authentic, and relatable characters. The setting starts on a yacht, where Lucille’s best friend, Marlene, faces a terrifying episode. When the yacht lands at a resort in Hogan Key, more drama is about to unfold when wealthy Ralph Edwards, the CEO of a pharmaceutical company, meets a sudden death. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat when Lucille sees the ghost of Sir Clement Tucker, whose murder went unsolved, taking the story in an extraordinary direction, revealing some twists and turns, secrets and lies, betrayal, deception, greed, extortion, and illicit activities. Yet, Lucille’s dealings with antagonists Jake and Sal make the story more captivating, slowly building up to a surprise sequence of events.
Definitely a new hit for this author in her first cozy mystery series.
I admit that book one, I not sure how I felt about the main character but positive about her now. She takes no gruff from no one even if scared. You go!! Her protector may be tiny but do not underestimate her. Love how she did it too. Never underestimate the little one.
I find it sad that one character felt the way he did and it lead him to his current life. Makes you think.
I can't wait to find out what happen to Sir Clem.
I like when I can find a moral or a nugget to take in every book, even a cozy mystery. There is a comment in the book that is true for everyone every day:
"' ...REALIZE HOW WRONG IT IS TO JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER, THAT EVERYONE WE SEE HAS A STORY-DEPTH THAT WE MAY NEVER EVER GET TO SEE OR UNDERSTAND."' Blind Escape by Tanya R. Taylor
Remember this yourself in your everyday life!!!! I plan to!!
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
Although blind since several years before her beloved husband’s death, Lucille Pfiffer has been granted “sight” using her mind’s eye by her resident ghost, Sir Clement. Merlene, her best friend, helps her hide it from people in the community out of fear that it could affect Lucille’s disability checks even though she cannot physically see.
Lucille’s beloved Shit Tzu Vanilla “Nilla” and the two young men who rent her extra bedrooms are now her only family and she is content with her life, but Merlene thinks she needs to add a little variety to her life. When a new acquaintance turns up dead on the fun Cruise Merlene takes her on, Lucille has a bad feeling about the circumstances. When she returns home Sir Clement also seems to be warning her that things are not as they seem. Lucille's dog 'Nilla is determined to help solve the case and protect Lucille. This is another fun cozy mystery in the Lucille Pfeiffer Series.
Get ready for a fun adventure! “Blind Escape” is the 2nd must read story in this fun, cozy mystery series! I love the heroine Lucille, who is a blind, quirky, senior widow with a lovable little dog named ‘Nilla’ (that’s short for vanilla.) Even with more adventure, I’d hoped for a bit more dialogue from her regular friends & life. Plus I was curious about a lapse between leaving the boat, and then after they’d landed back on shore, and also more hints about the 2 villains, even if to confuse us and then when they’re inside her house. But that’s just me and all in all, this was a very enjoyable read! ... I was fortunate to read this during my Kindle Unlimited, “extended trial membership” so yes, I can honestly recommend this book to fans of fiction & I look forward to read the next one by Ms. Taylor.
“Lucille, in life we’re not sure of anything, but we hope for the best, don’t we? "
In this, the second in the series (although there is enough allusion to the first book that it might be seen as a stand alone), Lucille, Merlene and Theodore go on a short cruise where a rather wealthy man drowns in the boat in the swimming pool. However, it's not the focus of the story. Merlene , slightly drunk, lets Lucille 's savings secret out and two guys kidnap Lucille for her money . Can Lucille trust Merlene anymore? Will she even make it home to Nilla? You'll just have to read and find out.
Although not as complex as the first story; hence the 4/5 stars, Tanya E Taylor has written a right cost and there are more to come I'm sure. Recommended 4/5
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I almost forgot how much I loved Lucille’s character and wicked sense of humor since I read the first book quite some time ago.
Lucille’s one tough lady anyone would be proud to call their friend and trust me, you do want her on your side! With some ghostly help she’s been able to see things going on. It seems her ghost friend had a favor and she felt the need to start looking into that, but she was interrupted. The showdown was awesome thanks to Lucille’s amazing lawyer. I knew he must’ve had a trick up his sleeve. The mystery was all explained and wrapped up but the book ended in another question which leads into the next book I’m sure.
I liked the story. It contained 2 plotlines, which I like because it gives more to the reader. The first plotline was more of a suspense than a mystery. Lucille sure is a feisty elderly lady. And smart. The second plotline was a murder mystery. But it was very short and simplistic. If the mysteries were a little more complex, it would turn the 4 ratings into a 5 rating. These books are also pretty short. Some of the word count is taken up with pages on other books and the first paragraph of the next in series or first paragraph of another series.
Tanya R.Taylor is well known for her mysterys because she is a fabulous writer, story teller and this series gives you a prime example the characters are intriguing this cozey mystery takes you to unexpected events wanting you to fallow through in discovering what truly happened in one mystery at the beginning tainted adventure and what is about to unfold at the ending of Lucille's .Acquire " Blind Escape " snuggle in with a favorite treat and be entertained. 😀 Kat
Didn't answer the questions that I thought it would.
Another great book by Tanya R. Taylor. It took a turn that was totally unexpected for me. I love surprises and this book has a few of them. Still waiting for my questions to be answered concerning the ghost that hangs around Lucille though. Book three must be the one I'm waiting impatiently to read, lol. I love this author and this series. Yep, I can hardly wait for the next book to come out.
I just finished reading book 2 in this series. I believe that book 1 was better. Yes it is a stand alone book but it's soft ending felt like it just stopped and for the rest of the story you need to order book 3. I really enjoy the author's writing style and how she can spin a tale.
I enjoyed this story. The main character is a mature and fiesty woman whom a ghost gave mind sight, since she went blind. She has been solving crimes while she is looking into who killed the ghost, when he was still alive. This time she was kidnapped. You will enjoy the story so go out and buy it.
Not for me. Shallow characters. Hateful to the police doing the investigation. Several times I felt like I had already read that sentence. Over detailed in no important parts, not as much detail in parts where you needed it. Main character is snobby and rude. Nothing to make the story stand out or different. Felt like I was reading what an ai wrote instead of a human writer.
Another great installment in the Lucille Phiffer series. She solves another murder mystery with her “sight.” The story is a very quick and interesting read and keeps you engaged with the story. I can’t wait to read more Lucille books.
This was the second in the series and the second book in the series that I've read. I loved it. It just carried on where #1 left off. I'm really starting to like Lucille and Nilla. I think I will carry on with the series.
I read the first book and was ready to enjoy the second one. But I didn’t. There was no mystery or suspense or anything that resembled a mystery. I had it solved by the second chapter. Very short book.
A wonderful enjoyable story. Lucille is blind but quite capable of solving the mysteries. A different take on suspense. It’s unbelievable what she capable of. Everyone will enjoy the book
I love this series because Lucille Pfiffer is a senior citizen that not only has what she calls inner vision but she is funny, fearless and tells people the truth even when it hurts.
A pleasant read. Our would be detective is an older woman who has lost her husband. She rents out rooms to young men to help her meet her bills. She has lost her sight but she occasionally get sight back and can accomplish a lot. Her best friend is afraid they will take her pension away from her. Her friend ends up putting her life in danger. But all works out in the end.
