Readers’ Comments “If you work in a hospital, you will find this interesting. The author works hard to show the stress of working in ER and how it affected his mental health. A vivid account, well-written.” Male reader, aged 70 “If you are thinking about going into nursing, I don’t know whether to recommend this book to you or not. Gritty in parts with an honest feel to it, give it a go. Then you’ll be going in with your eyes open!” Female reader, aged 51 “Although I felt the author didn’t quite have the writing skills, this is still a gripping read. I would recommend it to anybody who wants to understand what it’s like to work in ER.” Female reader, aged 40 “With many nursing staff and doctors suffering from mental disorders after dealing with COVID-19, this is a very relevant book. To Sum It Up: ‘A thought-provoking look at working in a hospital Emergency Room and how it impacted on a nurse’s mental health. A Red Ribbon Winner and highly recommended.’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards
This guy probably had a lot of comorbid AXIS II diagnosis' going on as well, very interesting read about the slow insidious decompensation into more severe symptoms of PTSD with depression, triggers, avoidant traits, dissociative symptoms, panic attacks, and somatic symptoms. This book seemed to be a cathartic therapy tool to help this guy recover. The antagonist seemed to be a faulty preposterous employment benefit program. Very good explanation of PTSD and the improper processing of memories. Wity and cynical humor with funny metaphors throughout. Very good story teller overall, look forward to reading more books from this author.
Wish the ending would of been more uplifting with a full miracle-like recovery. Certainly with this guys experience he could be a real asset helping others in the mental health field with similar stories.
An excellent book on what it's REALLY like to work in the ER, and what you are exposed to on a daily basis. An ER nurse's account of being diagnosed with PTSD and his journey of ongoing recovery. All healthcare workers will not only benefit by reading this book, they will relate to it, and enjoy the humour along the way. I work in healthcare and I highly recommend reading it. It offers validation for anyone who's ever had a rough shift. Totally relevant in today's work environment.
A View from the Wrong Side if the Day is a story T.C Randall needed to tell, and one we needed to hear. There are systematic flaws in our health care system, leaving front line staff exposed. T.C. Randalls story is not unique to him, and I applaud the effort to bring our universal struggles to the forefront. You do not have to be a nurse to enjoy this story as it can transcend to many other organizations.
