A group of pirates kill a merid, only to find that she was a mer-matron, and they have orphaned her young daughter. Who would they be if they did not save the child?
They wouldn't be the legends they are now, that's for sure.
did not expect this to be on goodreads but hey, pleasant surprise. i'm revisiting this 5 yrs later (did not realise it'd been that long!!) because i was thinking about fictional pirates and it popped into my mind. im happy to report it still holds up strong after all these years. theres some grammar errors here and there but mostly it's pretty good. very beautiful and vivid descriptions of the people and the landscapes. the action scenes are very well done, especially when ianthe is using her powers. my one gripe is that (spoilers) but i don't think it's that big of a gripe because honestly it's still really well written, to the point i'm willing to overlook any plot-related issues.
overall: a short but very enjoyable experience. 3.5/5 rounded up
