I was thrilled to be asked to review Crimson Legacy, the first in a new dystopian YA series. See what I thought below!
The good: - Gripping: This book had me hooked from the first page, and drew me further in with every chapter. I was gripped by the unfolding mystery surrounding Tara’s ancestors and her developing magical gift. - Fast-paced: The story progresses at pace, and despite occasional extended scenes of dialogue is action-filled from start to finish. This book is perfect for lovers of adventure and sci-fi fiction without the lengthy page-count. - Strong female characters: From Tara, to Jax’s mother and Lily, this is a novel brimming with strong female characters. Tara, the book’s heroine, jumps seamlessly from fighting off an army of soldiers to comforting the young boy who accompanies her on her travels - Michelle Bryan has avoided the trap of associating emotion with weakness.
The not so good: - Detail: Although the book’s pacy narrative helps to drive the storyline and build a sense of anticipation, the speed of narrative shifts at times equates to a seeming lack of detail, especially in terms of scenic descriptions.
I enjoyed this book. I am not into books with undead people, but this one peaked my interest since the female lead has special powers and now is a target. This is a dystopian with kick butt heroine that you'll be sure to enjoy.
