Tag/Hook: Hell hath no fury when an angel gets mad.
Twenty one year-old Daryl Victoria and her fiancé, Dean Fowler, a rookie detective who has been working on a serial killer case that involves the murder of five high school girls, are parked in their car for some frolicking when a carjacking goes wrong. Both are gunned down. Daryl takes a bullet in the face, and as a result of the damage, needs a corneal transplant. Dean has been shot through the lungs. They’ve been ordered to quit work, heal and recoup. Dean suffers a nervous breakdown as the murders increase and he is powerless to help, coupled with his guilt of having placed his bride-to-be, Daryl, in harm’s way in a seedy little lovers’ lane.
Daryl finds out that her transplanted eye is causing what she thinks are hallucinations. She begins to see what she believes are glowing angelic escorts and rancid death stalkers who are following persons of the general populace. When these supernatural beings get too close, the person they’re following dies within a short period of time. She discovers there’s a mysterious formula to the manner and timing of the deaths.
Daryl discovers that the donor for her new cornea was a 14 year-old gifted medium with some heavy duty clairvoyant powers. Only sparse information can be gleaned from the young girl’s mother since the daughter has died in her own mysterious way.
Daryl’s good eye sees the normal world. The donor eye sees a totally different realm with its own rules. With the help of Daryl’s best friend, Abbey, they embark on a mission to use the gift and try and save lives. But Daryl has a better plan—she can stop the serial killer by using her, gift, brains and looks. All it will take is an ingenious trap. First, she has to find out how the killer is gaining access into the homes. Then she has to use herself as bait and stop this madman at any cost.

While it shouldn't come as a surprise to me that Daryl's character was just so well written, it gave me a sense of pride that she didn't stand for any bull, and that she was a strong and reliable character I could sink my teeth into. I will be a forever fan of Mr. Stevenson's books and I would like to point that out to all the naysayers who bashed on the few typos and reduced their ratings of his work.
In her everyday life, Daryl Victoria is a staff member at a center for the hearing impaired and she can read lips and use sign language though quick study in on the job training. She's engaged to a newly appointed detective, Dean Fowler, and they're in the process of figuring out their lives together, as couples are apt to do at that definitive stage of life. The two are injured severely in a carjacking gone wrong and it's through a stroke of fate that Daryl Victoria is given the gift of sight again that has startling consequences. Unbeknownst to her, the donor of her left cornea was a young medium who had the ability to see "escorts", otherworldly beings who trail behind those bound for the great beyond.
The gift could not have come at a better time, as Dean has been working to find the murderous fiend ravaging the local high school population, a man dubbed "The Tooth Fairy" by local media. As Daryl hones in her newfound sight, so to speak, it's as if the world is conspiring against her to keep the rest of her life out of focus and in complete and utter chaos. I will not spoil whether this book has a happy or sad ending, suffice it to say that I kept at it until the very end and I was satisfied with the conclusion. There's also the chance to do things right, and who doesn't love having the chance at that?

A nail-biting paranormal suspense Thriller.
The characters are immensely entertaining and an engrossing plot.
Well narrated and well researched. Flawless and impressive writing captures the readers.
Unexpected events happening in the story keep you ticking to know what happens next.
Although this story revolves around a serial killer plot, the sub-plot has a supernatural/fantasy element to it. A bizarre mystery of strange sightings, coincidences, investigations, and tragedy.
Amazingly executed the game plan and the little details have been taken care of.
I loved the hospital scenes of eye transplant and their road to recovery, the heartfelt love between the couples, and the true friendship between Abbey and Daryl.
Daryl is a beautiful woman, with an elfin face, in love with a cop. Detective Dean Fowler is a good man who becomes obsessed with his cases. Daryl has been wanting to get married but it's been delayed by Dean's cases.
The current case was driving Dean to the edge of a mental break down. Daryl is having a hard time bringing him back. The Tooth Fairy cases in Riverside County are gruesome and growing in number. There seems to be no connection to the teenage girls slaughter other than their deaths. The mystery of how the perpetrator gains access to the girls' rooms and kills them mercilessly, taking a tooth as a trophy, has stumped the Riverside Police department.
When an attempt to bring some levity to their lives turns into an assault on them both, Daryl and Dean are gravely injured and left to recover from physical and mental scars. Daryl has to have an eye transplant which leads to a change in her outlook on life.
There is much more going on, and Daryl and her best friend Abby Fry, share a secret and explore the ramifications of Daryl's second sight. Will this be a help or a hindrance? Will anyone believe Daryl is seeing spirits? It also changes the way Dean and Daryl view the crimes.
This romantic suspense thriller is a great page-turner. I thought of it as a crime/murder mystery with a supernatural twist.
The mystery and suspense of the novel kickstart immediately from the early pages of the novel. The sadistic nature of a new serial killer drives one cop to obsession, his mind wracked with guilt over not stopping the killer sooner. Then the protagonist Daryl finds her world turned upside-down when she and her police officer fiancee are attacked. From that point on the action ramps up as her recovery leads to a supernatural level ability that gives her insight into an entirely different world.
The author does a great job of balancing the supernatural elements of the story with character growth and the mystery and suspenseful nature of the thriller genre. The creation of this deadly new serial killer is balanced well with the complex relationship between Daryl and Dean throughout their recovery and the overwhelming nature of Daryl’s new abilities.
The Verdict
A memorable, heart-pounding thriller and supernatural drama, “Earth Angel” by Chris Stevenson is a must-read book! Reminiscent of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s “Black House” (the sequel to their first novel The Talisman), and the blend of fantasy-driven storytelling with a monstrous serial killer, author Chris Stevenson has created a healthy blend of crime thriller with supernatural horror and emotional, relatable characters that readers can get behind. If you haven’t yet, be sure to grab your copy today!
Choosing a traditional good ol' biblical approach, Chris H. Stevenson brings out the supernatural that walks among us. Checking in as a 222-pager, he grooms his characters to express his thoughts through their words. As a detective story with a blending of mysticism and heated romance, Chris brings to your female protagonist a “chosen one” aspect with exceptional clairvoyance.
As a stand-alone novel with 21 chapters, Earth Angel is written from the third-person perspective. It is a character-driven narrative with a smooth pace and well-rounded, realistic characters. With his own engaging sense of humor, Chris satisfies your thirst for laughter. As you read along, you may notice your mind mapping the storyline and the scenarios while grasping its content. Chris maintains a wave of interest, you may experience your attitude change from sudden depressing moments to climactic ecstasy throughout the plot.
Very interesting concept. I loved the idea of a donor eye being able to see heaven and hell. I had a hard time focusing on the novel after getting bogged down in seemingly trivial matters and wording. Overall it was an enjoyable novel.
Earth Angel by Chris H. Stevenson presents an engrossing concoction of supernatural and thriller genres. Dean was so absorbed in the case involving The Tooth Fairy, a vicious serial killer, that he had lost all sense of his personal life. Every time the news reported another victim, he drowned himself into alcohol. His fiancée, Daryl, tried to control his unruly behavior, but then her own life took a chaotic turn of events after a terrible accident. Fortunately, the doctors found a donor and performed a quick surgery that helped her regain the lost vision of her left eye. However, this gift turned out to be more of a burden when she began spotting strange beings around humans. With The Tooth Fairy on the loose and her bizarre talent, the circumstances were bound to go out of control.
Stevenson pens a grand story in Earth Angel: Hell Hath No Fury When an Angel Gets Mad. I have read work from this author before, and I really enjoyed it. The characters were interesting and full of different layers, giving them depth. This author brings the story to life. There is a great chemistry between the characters, which make for a great story. This story was intriguing and kept the reader guessing. The title drew me in, but the story made me stay. This author's characters develop and interacts well with the other characters. I have fast become a big fan of Stevenson. I look forward to reading many more stories by this author, and maybe some repeats. Amy's Bookshelf Reviews definitely recommends this story.
This was an interesting concept. What if you received a donor eye that could see heaven and hell? Well, the protagonist Daryl after receiving an eye transplant began to see "things" that could not possibly be real. This was a solid read from the respect that the plot was interesting. The protagonist was very developed. Stevenson took the time to build this character and the world around her using descriptive imagery that pulled me in from the beginning. I think the story moved well and was very well structured. I think those who enjoy a novel with good suspense building will enjoy this story.
