SURE SHOT- The Tale told in REVERSE

Rate this book
‘Never question reality. You might get its answer.’

"“A story full of mystery and fantasy wrapped in twisted humor, passion and blood so unnerving that the images jump off the page and keep you on your toes."
- Steven Pelcman, Two-time Pushcart Prize nominee

Memento
meets Sherlock in SURE SHOT - a fantasy thriller told backwards, about a killer who is forced to navigate the manipulative world of false memories to hunt down his son's murderer.

Amadeus Barnes leads a tranquil life for such a sinner. He is blessed to spend centuries with his beloved son, discovering buried parks in a snow-ridden world and waging war against one another through wood sculpting.

Or does he?

Because Amadeus is trapped in a perpetual false memory, one he doesn’t want to realize. But all good memories fade far too fast.

Soon after he meets Mnemosyne, The Lady of Memory, he is called to save the very fabric of reality- at a bloody price.

The murder of his own son.

And as revenge turns into a battle against his own malicious mind, Amadeus is caught in the conflux of ethereal, immortal forces who seek to sway, manipulate and above all, control him on his cold-blooded quest, as they all provide the answer to one question-

How do you kill someone who is not real?

⚒️ONE INTERESTING JOURNEY⚒️
Don't blink! If you're searching for something totally different and off the beaten path, keeps you on your toes and has you flipping every stone, bestowing one incredibly unique spin with a killer storyline and engaging plot, meshing this bad boy together seamlessly. Congrats my friends you've hit the motherload. Sparks fly as drama, turmoil, danger, and suspense ensues, riding the drama, intrigue, angst and a boatload of intense situations while dodging disaster, you have one chart topping adventure. Shenanigans, escapades and havoc run amuck, clocking the taxing trials and challenging tribulations, noting the deadly twists and wicked turns, putting our characters through their paces, catapulting this gem into the eye of the storm, slamming it into overdrive with an eye opening realization. One action packed, heart pounding, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping, nail-biting bombshell, catapulting this gem to a whole new realm. The characters are complex and genuine with traits and qualities that add depth and diversity, transforming into relatable personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions that feel as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Remarkable job Pais, thanks for sharing this lil' fella with us.

I got this book under 'Read it & Reap' Program in exchange for an honest review

This was an interesting read, but unfortunately, I understood very little about what was going on there. Since this is a prequel, I guess, it is ok not to understand everything taking into account that I haven't read "Are you sure?".

Concerning the book, it was for sure exciting to get acquainted with reverse storytelling. But, I guess, that's why I had some difficulties while reading, because for me it needs some getting used to.

The story begins with the assault of a red woman. And since the first page I was wondering if she is a good guy or not. And I still couldn't figure it out by the end of the book ( however, I have my assumption and will have to read the other book by the author to confirm it). And it continues with strange things happening to Amadeus involving his son Leo.

One needs to read to the end to understand the beginning. And what seemed strange to me.at first became understandable later.

I would certainly like to read "Are you sure?" to get the full story and get acquainted with the characters properly, because here I was only told about the events, which I guess could help me to understand the book better, but not the characters and their relationships.

Overall, an interesting read which made me want to read other books by the author.

Sure Shot, by Naethan Pais

Reviewed 18 July 2020

Dark and delightfully macabre, Naethan Pais has talent engaging multiple senses in the scenes he sets. He makes twisted become so. . . reasonable. This book runs last to first, but Naethan has developed a formula for tying together ends and beginnings to make it work well. I came away thinking this the best story I’ve read in quite a while.

A surreal novelette told in reverse order, Sure Shot is the kind of story that you need a hundred percent brain power to understand, and even then you'll probably finish it not fulling understanding what you've just read. Only readers looking for something original and challenging need apply themselves.

Imagine that you keep having the same nightmare, and you get it over and over again, and every time you have it, the nightmare starts a little earlier, and the thing that frightens you the most is pretty soon you're going to get to the beginning of the nightmare....

That's Sure Shot. It's a quick read and an interesting experiment in narrative structure. The author has an interesting imagination and a good hand at metaphor and simile.

This is simply horrible. The idea is interesting, but the language is dull and the whole book screams of amateur writing (even though he claims to be a best-seller - not cool when you are not). Characters has nothing unique to them and... well, I just couldn't finish this short book. Sorry, but the book is just not for me.

I'm pretty proud of this new novelette, but then I wrote it. I hope this little tale told backwards has something new to offer to the amazing genres of fantasy and thrillers. For those who love the mind-bending of INCEPTION and MEMENTO, I hope this scratches that itch!

More importantly, I'd love to hear what you think!

This was an interesting read with a unique concept. The writing was great, although there were a few parts I didn't quite grasp as well as other parts. This prequel is very descriptive and will always leave an image of its scenes in your head.

It took me a bit to get used to the concept, but if you can do prologues, why not. Poe invented the mystery by telling a horror story backward so the author might be on to something here. Hopefully he continues his original style.
