"Missing" is written by Mian Mohsin Zia.

First, I can put myself in a good position with the language barriers, because I can read, write and listen to English best and speaking in English I have no confidence.

The story is very understandable, especially for people who want to learn a language that is not their mother tongue. The role of the main characters are also very understandable if you have suffered loss and want to learn to deal with it.

The emotionality and vulnerability fascinates and delights in its strength. You feel it as an echo of yourself and as your own feelings and vulnerability. I thought about my own experiences and what hurdles you have overcome to be where you are today. And you forget about your own pain through the beauty and poetry of words for a while. The characters have soothing, calming voices and create a relaxing atmosphere. The voices are confident in themselves and gentle with the reader. The subtleties of language and the selected, individual words fascinate me.

"They say seeing is believing. But to me, experiencing is believing." (page 84, line 30+31)

The story is about friendship, cherishing family and the moments we have together. There is a cultural understanding and recognition that we're all the same when it comes down to the most fundamental principles of life.

The author should receive a literary award for this work because of the convergence of cultures and understanding and bringing closer to the Pakistani and Russian cultures.

The story sticks to you, is exciting and makes you think over and over again.

All in all, it could really be a movie. The language is lively and pictorial. It is very detailed, accurate and to the point. The language speaks volumes, so to speak. The author convinces in his eloquence and language. It is a far beyond writing than anybody could imagine. Impressive, logical and analytical clear. Consistent and simple in a way, but concise enough to be brilliant. A class for itself.

I am now wondering why I gave this 2 stars? The author provided the book free of charge. I can not find much worth in this effort. It was painful and plodding. There are several promotions for a totally non-relevant fitness product which annoy me but the overall effort feels like a first draft. The book does not really start to move until after the halfway point and much suspense potential and intrigue is poorly manufactured. There are way too many religious explanations and this platonic affair one could consider barely friendly ends poorly. For some reason, the technology is established in the 2007 period. The voices of many characters are stifled and unnatural, certainly the subject of how police investigations are run, even in Pakistan are weak. And there are gaping plot holes, character errors and inconsistencies.

In this interesting storyline, character Zia, befriends a woman by the name Lena during a language exchange program. Z desires to learn Russian while Lena wants to improve on her English. Both end up exchanging more than language as they also share their pain, losses and their cultures, later forming a close friendship. Then when out of the blue Lena goes missing, Z makes takes it upon himself to search to find her.
The narrative premise of the book is calling, it has some action and adventure. The book drags on in some areas as the reader wants to get to the vanishing part and why. The author also goes back and forth about pass and present which confused me at times.
The book has a great storyline, well written and descriptive. Overall an interesting read.

I'm honored to have been among those first selected to read Mian's latest novel Missing.

He's such a good writer that I couldn't stop reading until I finished it.

The story is thrilling and breathtaking at times. It shows how the sense of humanity fails when kindness, selfless devotion and piety aren't part of the human nature.

This story makes us understand that it is not blood that connects us but the ties of friendship and kindness wherever we are in the world.

I would definitely recommend it

'This is not my usual choice of genre of novel, yet from the first page, I was drawn into the story most particularly by the characters. It is a story of intrigue and of relationships. At times I found myself tensely anticipating the outcome, needing to read on to discover the fate of the characters I'd engaged with.

The story moves from present and delves into the past, it offered me an insight into a very different world to my own - and yet the common threads of human nature are evident. 'Missing' is well worth a read.
