Charles Dickens: The Apostle of the People

Rate this book
Dickens is acknowledged to have been an active advocate of reform in Victorian England. The author of this critical biography goes a step further and analyzes Dickens' works in terms of the causes he espoused. The author asserts that Dickens was a Socialist without knowing it, and that in almost all of his writings Dickens was working for Socialism, although the term itself did not come into common use until some years after his death.
