The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, often referred to as The Guggenheim, is an art museum at 1071 Fifth Avenue between 88th and 89th Streets on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City.
It hosts a permanent collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, early Modern and contemporary art.
Liked the essay by Carter Ratcliff differentiating Kelly's art from the general ideas of Minimalism.
Overall I was a bit disappointed with the catalog. For a body of work so concerned with space, there were few installation photographs. Most of the images were the standard artwork mug shot- in this case helpful as an index of the work made but misses a lot of the meaning/sense of the art.
Compared to the recent Richard Tuttle retrospective catalog with its unique layouts, different kinds of images (close-up, installation, color, b & w, grainy, sharp focus) this catalog was a bit dull and doesn't help to dispel feelings that Kelly may be a bit too comfortable in his art world niche.
