Because Robot isn't a boy or a girl (Robot is a robot), this book is designed to teach the singular they pronoun. Many adults struggle to retrain their brains to get used to non-gendered pronouns, but there's no reason the next generation can't grow up with the singular they as a natural part of their speech, and Robot the Robot can help.
