If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this guide may be just what you need to change your life. Simply put, intermittent fasting or IF is the practice of restricting your mealtimes to certain times or days of the week. From a 2016 study titled “Fatty Acid Oxidation and Its Relation with Insulin Resistance and Associated Disorders” by Dr. Gary D. Lopaschuk, it was proven that intermittent fasting enables a person to lose up to 8% of their body weight over a period of 3 months. If you needed more convincing, the Nutrition and Metabolism journal published an article in 2014 by Dominik H. Pesta and Varman T. Samuel which outlined how IF was instrumental in increasing your metabolic rate while reducing insulin resistance. So, rather than slogging it out at the gym for hours, all you’ll need to do is just switch up your mealtimes. Sounds simple doesn’t it? Well, it really is. With this easy-to-understand guide, you get to know more about … and much, much more! Extensively researched and backed by the latest scientific findings, this guide provides you with everything you need to know to win your battle of the bulge.
I have read this author’s general book on intermittent fasting , and you would think that his book specifically on the science of intermittent fasting would have even more references than a general book. However, this book actually had about half the references that the first book had. (And they are roughly the same length.) Not all of the book truly looked at the science behind intermittent fasting. An introductory section seemed more about mindset than science, and a section at the end with intermittent fasting tips had no scientific references at all. If you're going to call a book “the science of” something, it should all be, well, scientific! The first section that was actually on the science of intermittent fasting was very brief; the second section specifically meant to bust myths about intermittent fasting was longer and had a fair amount of references.
If you are truly looking for a book that is about the science of intermittent fasting, this one is not it. I suggest finding another book on the topic.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
A very informative book. I've found this book very detailed with a lot of relevant information on the science behind the idea of intermittent fasting. Encourages changes in behaviour and addresses how to overcome habitual challenges with practical ideas. Discusses in detail the various IF varieties and offers a critical appraisal of each. Insulin, glucose and fat metabolism are discussed in great detail, yet in an easy to read and understand manner. Ketones and relevant hormone influences are also mentioned to give a more comprehensive and complete picture of the various factors and their roles in our metabolism. Nutrition is most definitely a science. I whole-heartedly recommend this book to all who want to learn about our nutritional requirements and the influence of each of the contributing factors.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Science of Intermittent Fasting: Why Intermittent ing Fasting Works And How To Do It The Right Way
The book explains the benefits of Intermittent Fasting, but it doesn't tell you what you should and should not eat. It doesn't give you a list. How do you know this method works in the long term. You may be able to lose weight off this method, but once you reach your goal, can you keep it off?
