A look at what remains of 25 of Edna Walling's gardens planted during the period 1925 - 1963. In some cases, the gardens are more or less what she would have planned, though in others little of her original plan remains.

Key takeaways for the budding garden planner:
1. Work with the natural landscape.
2. Plan a series of "pictures" to look at from the house and other parts of the garden.
3. Include unifying themes throughout the garden (e.g. plants and materials).
4. Install the construction (hardscaping) first.
5. Mass plant, but be prepared to remove excess as the years go by.

Trisha does a great job with a remarkable figure who has not properly being remembered.
