Various is the correct author for any book with multiple unknown authors, and is acceptable for books with multiple known authors, especially if not all are known or the list is very long (over 50).

If an editor is known, however, Various is not necessary. List the name of the editor as the primary author (with role "editor"). Contributing authors' names follow it.

I read this many times as a child. Of course, none of the stories are really scary. They'd be more accurately described as "mildly creepy" at best. There is no indication of who compiled the stories, or who did the illustrations (the copyright page only has the ISBN and publisher details).

Dogs of Dismal Fen by Angus Allan
A satisfying and simple story with a bit of heart.

The Inheritance by Marianne Gray
This descends into confusing nonsense.

Something on the Stairs by Brenda Ralph Lewis
I quite liked this.

Miss Freshwater and the Voodoo Doll by Ted Harriott
Okay.

Dead Man's Hand by Alan Grant
This was more of a fun story.

Dracula by Bram Stoker
An extract.

The Presence by John Wagner
This is the only story that genuinely scared me as a child, so much that I had to stop reading for a while. The final illustration (since every story in the book gets a few) terrified me.

The Phantom Monk by Eric Maple
Famous Five-esque.

Webways by George Forrest
This stood out as fun and different - the deus ex machina rescue at the end ruined it somewhat.

Buzzz by Alan Grant
Star Trek as insectophobic exploration.

The Doll by John Wagner
A morality play (and the second story about voodoo dolls).
