Shortly after a young couple vow to love each other through sickness and health, their commitment is tested when a tragic farm accident destroys their world. Surviving the insurmountable damage seems impossible, but when a community comes together and profoundly demonstrates what can be done through prayer and support—and a Kansas farm family puts all their trust and faith in God—lives are inspired by results that are nothing short of miracle. For some, farming is a calling more than an occupation, and to those who participate in the time-honored production of America's food supply, the challenge of staying solvent through the generations is a continual concern. And when tragedy strikes at the heart of a farming family, the repercussions demand the best of individuals and community, calling forth that spirit and resolve so essential to those who live and grow on the land. This mother's account of her adult son's shocking experience with loss and the subsequent struggle to maintain life as a husband and father, and regain his role within the rural landscape of the Kansas heartland, is a heartfelt tribute to the qualities that made and keep America's precious farm families doing what they do best.
Though I believe there are miracles around us every day, your family lived a big one. I remember the Facebook posts that kept your friends and community in touch with Zach’s progress. I remember how people prayed for him and his family. Thank you, Lisa, for sharing your family's journey and your faith through such a difficult time. I know Liza Short personally. Her book is a well-written testimony of how a community can show their love and support for each other.
This book was both inspiring and depressing. It was particularly difficult for me to read about the days in ICU at Via Christe in Wichita...... I know what it's like having experienced when my 20 year old son was there and the agony we went through. It's a long story, and my son died 10 months later. It was agonizing and that doesn't come close to describing the journey. When Zack's Mother Lisa and wife Jodie said many times that God is good....... I want to tell everyone, that my son that I loved with all my heart died, and I can say with absolute certainty that GOD IS STILL GOOD!!!!!! I had 2 son's, and they both died, the other son died in infancy. I've often been asked if I was angry at God, and my answer has always been NO! God loved my sons even more than I did.... If I couldn't do on, then my son's would have been my God instead of God being my God. I sure would like to visit with the author, Mrs Short, but I'm not on Facebook. I live in Salina, KS.
A poignant story of faith, hope and trust. It is well written and must have been very difficult to write about such a tragic event. The support of the community was outstanding and a great reminder that people do care. I enjoyed reading this story about Zach and his horrendous accident which caused so much grief for him and his family. The outcome was definitely miraculous and his strength of character was amazing. Thank you for sharing your story, Lisa and I wish you all the very best.
This true and honest story about Zach Short’s life after a tragic farming accident, told from a mother’s perspective, was intriguing and miraculous. Zach’s mom’s gratitude for Zack’s life, his wife Jodi’s fighting spirit for her husband, & Zack’s persistent acceptance of his situation & how to overcome difficulty is such a great example to all.
Good inspirational story. God is good! Can’t imagine what this family went through for so many months on Zach’s journey to survive and heal. Quick read. Reminds us to not take anything we have for granted.
Thoroughly enjoyed your book. Warrior is a great description of Zach. I may not know him but I appreciate his bulldog tenacity! Thanks for braving the storm and writing this book!
