IVF GOT THIS-My Journey to Motherhood

Rate this book
When people think of birth and motherhood, the process seems pretty straight forward; However, for Colette Centeno Fox, her journey to motherhood was not as straight forward as everyone thought it would be…

IVF Got This is a heartfelt memoir charting Colette and her husband Michael’s fertility journey. Experiencing infertility is a painful challenge, and yet the impacts are rarely discussed in the open.

Like many suffering with similar anxieties, Colette was afraid of missing out on her dream of becoming a mum. She details her emotional journey, through suffering traumatic baby losses, monthly setbacks and frustrating waiting times whilst coping with the ongoing confusion of how to relate this to the people around her.

The book is a refreshingly honest and intimate account of the IVF process, one, which offers practical insight into the often arduous but remarkable journey which fertility treatment can offer.

Colette Centeno Fox lives with her husband and twin children in Buckhurst Hill, Essex, UK. She has a degree in International Hospitality and Tourism Management and works in a luxury travel agency part-time – spending the rest of the time with her family. Raised in England, Colette moved to the Philippines for several years after school and whilst there she won Miss Philippines. Colette then went on to compete in Miss International in Japan and became a well-known TV host and model before moving back to England.

IVF Got This is a truly intimate and harrowing narrative of Colette’s journey to motherhood. We are all guilty of assuming that getting pregnant and having a baby is a simple thing that all women can do. However, the stark reality is that for some women it is not that simple, and they go through some truly heart-breaking experiences that we try not to talk about as it is an uncomfortable topic. Colette shines a light on not only her experience through IVF but also the impact the experience had on her mental health.

I could not put this book down; it is an easy and honest read and is a must read for everyone. It shows that there is a light at the end of the tunnel for those struggling but it also shows that an offhand comment can send someone spiralling down a dark path. We all need to be more careful with what we say to people as you never know what demons they are facing in their own life.
Thank you Colette for sharing your story with us; it was incredibly brave.

A book that describes a journey where she conceives yet struggles with the inability to stay pregnant. My heart goes out to her for the number of times she loses the babies. Following which she puts herself back on the process. Ivf and infertility is often thought of as the inability to get the 2 positive lines on a HPT. N here, we see the difficulties beyond it. The sadness and miscarriages. More power and strength to women who go through it!
Not taking away anything at all from the journey, As a book, it could be a little better put together.
