Understanding that you have no control at this moment over your impulses is the first step. Once you accept this fact you are ready to tackle them with the advanced techniques in this book. Understand that you will need to be stern with yourself when you get into situations where these demons are likely to emerge. These can be times when you are going to eat a second or third helping of food. They can be all those times when you know you should start working, but you put it off to do something more interesting - like talking with a colleague.

Just by looking at the art cover for this audiobook, one might believe it was about "kung fu" or "martial arts," but that isn't the case. It's just a self-discipline self-help audiobook that's meant to help you to replace bad habits with good ones.

The audiobook book begins with a short introduction, followed by 9 chapters, and ends with a conclusion. The author wastes no time explaining that our inner demons have prevented us from achieving success. The only way to get full control of your life is to break the bad habits that have been holding us back. To break bad habits, you need to have good manners. You need to be purpose driven, be more productive, and use proper time management.

One of the many things I need to improve on in my life is my self-discipline, which was why I was interested in reviewing this audiobook. The author wastes no time laying down the facts about why we are self-sabotaging ourselves with bad habit loops, and gives simple advice on how to replace the those habits with good ones.

Overall, Self-Discipline is a well-written audiobook that is short and to the point.

Simple, maybe too simple

This book was not exactly original. I was hoping for something new and different. The author seemed to write with a lot of bullet points, but never really expanded on the ideas. It is fast reading, but dull.

I have read similar books to this, so wasn't sure what new information or insight it might offer up to me. But I was hoping to find something new in it though I doubted I really would.

The book is well written. I was not sure exactly of the writing, though. At times it felt like mixed voices speaking, almost like he got content from other sources that was not cited, then filled in between with his own voice and style. I am not sure if that happened or if I was reading more in to it than was there. But regardless, it had some great information and was definitely well done. The wording was not just a simplified version or dialogue. He used words that were more educated, written more for adults than kids or teens. I liked seeing that, versus some of the other books that I have read on the topic that are very basic and just scratch the surface. He provides the reader with not only the insight on what self-discipline is and why it is important to have it, but also outlines some great strategies for helping yourself to be more self-disciplined. The ideas and strategies are realistic and feasible.

The writing style is good. He speaks with knowledge of the subject and explains it easily for readers. The book was well written without the mistakes in grammar, spelling, and punctuation that I often see in other books any more. His was relatively free of errors and did not distract me in the least. I did have to read through it a few times, sometimes having to read a page a few times, but only because I was easily distracted by life around me.

This is a very short book, but a powerful one. I think there is value in this book and whoever reads it will find ideas to help them make improvements in their life.
